Well this is interesting…

Big news from easyJet:

The airline’s CEO, Kenton Jarvis, says that the UK’s busiest airport, London Heathrow Airport, is “on the cards” — but only if the price is right.

Heathrow remains the only major London airport from which easyJet doesn’t currently operate — the gap that could soon be closed.

The “if the price is right” caveat matters: Jarvis says that if costs at Heathrow go up, easyJet may decide not to move in.

It’s part of a broader growth agenda as easyJet turns 30 years old — expansion, new routes and more competition ahead.

What this could mean for travellers:
If easyJet does launch flights from Heathrow, it might bring more low-cost options into a slot-scarce and expensive airport. That could mean better deals or more choice for flyers — though it also depends on how the costs shake out.

The Chief Executive of Heathrow linked the likelihood of low cost carriers appearing there to the construction of a third runway. A decision by the Government as to its preferred option for a third runway is expected this month.

Whatever their plans are for LBA are, it’s feels unlikely they will be motivated by some kind of reaction to Jet2 at LGW. Their plans for LBA will hinge on whether LBA is a strategic fit for them and whether they can make money (compared to deploying aircraft somewhere else in their network). Does Jet2’s entry into LGW change that?

I wouldn’t be surprised. Ultimately the plans can change and what they have planned may move the plan forward some years.

To achieve what though? What’s the specific outcomes Easyjet want to achieve and in what way have those outcomes changed as a result of Jet2 moving into LGW
I’d agree, I think if anything this may hasten a base at SOU which may run in partnership with TUI who are seemingly being squeezed at LGW and BOH. Any base at LBA will come when the time is right, which I’m convinced is a when and not an if. I also fully believe that we may start to see the end of TUI operating an airline in-house eventually unfortunately.

Oh no! What will DSA do then? No TUi and no other airlines to operate as partner airlines either? Eastern gone too.
Looking like Virgin Atlantic and Emirates then!

This mornings announcement most certainly makes SOU the likely destination for the next easyJet base. With Jet2 eroding orange market share at LGW, they will want to substitute this somewhat elsewhere in the south and at the same time direct Jet2 business away from BOH. Common sense really!

That's certainly not an illogical thought process. One thing I will add though is that @Starflyer has hinted at perhaps more from FR at LBA next year, if U2 don't add anything extra at LBA does that put them even more on the back foot here. Not for one minute suggesting a base for 2026 but more away based flying could just be on the cards to counter. That way there are not the base set up costs involved and helps continue their bit by bit LBA expansion. I don't think we have heard the last of all this and even at a time of industry headwinds

an extra x2 easyJet rotations for S26 expansion is definitely welcome, giving us more then Wizz have. Be interesting to see if the retaliate to Jet2 news at LGW yesterday. ALC, AMS, FAO would be a good start!

I’ve asked a couple of contacts at easy as they had told me of the LBA rumours a few times. I just have a sneaking suspicion that they’re being turned to watch what happens with DSA, particularly if they have the support of TUI. I know they’re one of the airlines that the team there are in discussion with. Not trying to rock the boat on here but it’s plausible.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
