Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

The 737-800 is not one of my favourite aircraft, it is severely restricted from airfields that so not have a perfect runway. I know Ryanair have had restrictions with their -800's from LBA, but not really as much as a problem as then Thomson as with Ryanair passengers generally take around 50% less bags so obviously the aircraft is lighter, and the stage length of Ryanair flights is considerably less.

On Friday the Ryanair -800's had to do laps of the taxiways for over an hour delaying several other flights due to the crosswind component been too high, due to the -800's having winglets. I'm surprised Thomson even considered using the -800 at LBA, especially to Sharm El Sheikh!!

I seem to recall major issues with the 738 when Britannia first got a batch and introduced them to Leeds. They would by delayed, divert or have to fuel stop all the time!

It is pretty bad that we had A320 & 738 unable to op direct to tfs. Thank god future generations of ac such as the E190 & 787 have fantastic performance from shorter runways.

Come on guys. This past Friday weather was a not common occurrence. The wind was stronger than what LBA is use to in the winter. It happens 2 to 3 times a year, The Thomas Cook, Airbus A320 and Thomson, Boeing 737-800 flights to Tenerife both diverted outbound via Faro for simple reason. Safety.

The cross winds were out out limits for both the aircraft types to take-off with a full load. Just ask any pilot. And they will say that safety comes first. The Captain is in change and he is responsible to get you and me to are destinations. I know i would rafter have a tech stop than have an incident.

This is not down to aircraft not been able to operate direct. As both types can quite easily operate direct to the Canary Islands from LBA come, Rain, Wind, Snow or Sunshine.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

These fuel stops occured as a result of the runway length and direction at LBA compounded by the strong cross winds & gusts. Yes safety, but the winds did not cause issues like this at other airports. Think that is all people are highlighting, thankfully No... wind on that level is not common. I have had worse at LBA having said that, i have seen ac parked on stand 8 nose out with passengers needing a bus as the wind was so strong you could not walk in it! I also think it is important to highlight that despite those very strong winds, very few inbound flights diverted! Thankfully, we have a hell of alot of experienced pilots at LBA! I think it is going to be one hell of a winter and most people seem to have the same vibe. Should be very interesting!

My mum said the same last week.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Well if you believe in the theory that weather patterns are just a cycle, winters have become worse last 3 years. Each year, becoming that little bit more extreme than the last. Not forgetting last winter when the entire month of december was pretty much a white out. We may well see a return to the times when you had to dig your way out of your street.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I already had to do that last year! The council have even removed the grit bins now, so its a certainty that the least little bit of snow it will be out with the snow shovel again to get up the hill. When I was doing it a dozen times last winter it just made me think what a fantastic job the guys at LBA do, and how much I would like to have a snow brush machine to do our street!

.....Hold on .....hold on .....what happened to global warming?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Probably due to the fact that the melting ice caps are resulting in more cold water being pushed South. This in turn affects the air currents. The gulfstream is gradually moving South as a result, so we in turn are becoming more prone to weather more assoaicted with far Northern Europe, ie colder and windier.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Just like in the film 'Day after Tomorrow' Aviador. Haven't you seen it yet??

Bigman is right though - it seems daft, but global warming could actually lead to the weather in the Uk becoming a whole lot worse, in which case LBA had better buy a few more runway brushes!!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Hi all

This is just an heads up to state that Thomson Airways will be sending in a Boeing 767-300WL tomorrow afternoon. Tuesday, November 23rd operating an inbound P&O Cruise Charter

TOM893 is due into LBA @ 15:10 from Acapulco operating via Orlando Sanford. She is then due to position out to Manchester @ 16:10 as TOM587P

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

LBA arrivals board states expected 16.08 and departs as 893 fox to Gatwick! Could the website be wrong for a change!!!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Todays inbound flight TOM893, P&O Crusie service from Acapulco via Orlando Sanford was operated by Thomson Airways, Boeing 767-300 G-OOAN (Still in First Choice colours)

I saw her parked on the stand 8 Air Bridge when I was passing by on me way home from work at around 16:30ish.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Anyone know what LS3000T departure from LBA to LBA tomorrow at 9am? Training flight? Or one of those fear of flying courses?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

It could have been a Yorkshire Airlines flight, LBA to LBA because if it's outside Yorkshire...................

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I think the T indicates a training flight, although it could be going to another airport such as DSA to do whatever they are going to do. It would still be LBA - LBA if it isn't landing anywhere, although it isn't a flight that should be showing up anyway, which is probably why they have removed it now.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Does anyone know what the flight LS8754 is that is due into LBA this evening? (It went out as LS8753 very early this morning). As usual, the destination/point of origin is showing as blank on the live arrivals/departures. Is this a Hajj flight from Jeddah, as I can't remember seeing any of them arriving back at LBA over the past week, whereas they have been shown arriving at MAN on BBC Ceefax. Given the aircraft left LBA around 4am, it has had time to get over there and get back again for this evening (I think!)

Yep Heather its the returning Hajj flights from Jeddah. Just when we thought LBA might have sorted the Live Arrivals out it looks like its back to normal now.

But saying that i guess all the airport staff are working flat out at the moment due to all the bad weather around so its understandable that old problems will reacure.

I love your optimism LBAspotter but the staff responsible for the website will be very warm and cosy sat up 'in the gods' of LBA. (Still we must be only days away from the new website opening.)

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
