Won't need to tell. We all full well know, LHR will be the first to shut, because "it can't handle the snow"

Well, they have just doubled the machine power and tripled the staff levels for snow clearance, so I hope they can manage it this time.
Leeds rarely benefits in a large way from LHR closures anyway, so, probably not an issue if LHR closes and LBA is clogged up in Ryanairs.

Birmingham will be even worse if they are hoping for diverts, they have 11 of the buggers parked up at the moment!

We didn't do to bad for inbound diverts from the snow closed LHR last winter. I think we ended up with a BA, A320, BMI A320 and a Private 727 along with a few ryanair's from STN. We also nearly had a BA 767 but speedy op's sent him to Madrid instead even though we had spare stands for it.
I know MAN had its own problems as the Man Utd team ended up at LBA one night that both LPL and MAN were closed along with a Thomson & Jet2 B757's a few ryanair's and an Easyjet. We also had to turn away a couple of Wizz Air's on the same night due to there been no refuellers on site.

I'll counter this by saying LBA has its own problems as we all know.

But when I said LBA doesn't get many, bear in mind you had 3 LHR diverts out of what must have been going into the hundereds.
There seem to be routines in place and contracts signed for such eventualities, so LBA often only gets the overspill of the overspill, and the main point im making is that there is no point wondering why LBA are happy to park up Ryanairs instead of leaving room for diverts when in reality, they are few and far between.

MAN's closures were only short and sporadic, most of them being for as little as 45 minutes during the heaviest snowfalls for the runways to be cleared. It did very well last winter, and don't forget, MAN has over twice the size of LBA to clear, so, whilst the snow was less there than down here, to be closed as little as they were is nothing short of applaud-able, and maybe BAA should send their staff to MAN to see how its done!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Since the pan would not be used to park up diverts (should they occur), it makes absolute sense to fill it up with Ryanair 738's that are going nowhere. They are bringing in some money into LBA, but are out of the way and not clogging up the available parking stands. Providing there is enough space to take more, then I can't see any problem with putting 4 or 5 of them up there. There should be space - we had the entire Capital Airlines fleet parked up there in the 80's after they went bust - 2 BAe146-300's and 6 Shorts 360's, with room for more.

The only potential problem is that LBA has, in the past, often stored its snow clearing equipment on the pan, so if it is turned into a Ryanair parking zone, they might have to find somewhere else.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Thanks for that Lbaspotter.

Does anyone know what aircraft are operating today's Hajj Departures?

G-LSAL is operating the 271/2 Alicante service and G-LSAM is operating the 223/4 Tenerife service.

From posts on other topics, G-LSAA, which was supposed to arrive into LBA this morning, but has been diverted. Are the two Hajj Flights; The 10:50 LS8041 Jeddah and the 10:55 Medina LS8003 going to be delayed as a result, because it looks like we have no more B757's on deck at LBA...?

LS8702 was operated by G-LSAA but it diverted to Manchester due to Fog, It has now positioned back direct to Jeddah as LS8041.

The LS8003 has been operated by LBA based G-LSAJ.

G-LSAD has also positioned out to Jeddah/Medina as LS8005 from Manchester earlier this morning.

Meanwhile B757-200WL's G-LSAB & G-LSAC are both parked up having a few days rest until tomorrow evening on the other side off the Atlantic Ocean after operating Christmas shopping charters from East Midlands and Glasgow to New York-Newark on Thursday

4x LBA based ryanair B737-800WL’s

EI-EMJ (In Service Yesterday)
EI-DLT (In Service Yesterday)
EI-EBI (Last used Saturday, Dec 3)
EI-EKN (Last used Monday, Nov 28)

So judging by the above based I would say that the ryanair Boeing 737-800WL down in the pan this weekend will have most likely been EI-EKN as she has not operated a flight since last Monday, November 28th. But saying that she is back in service today along with EI-EBI which was last used on Saturday, December 3rd. I know yesterday that both EI-EMJ and EI-DLT were the operational aircraft service.

Hope that helps.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

So are we to take it that all four aircraft will be used alternatively, so that 2 aren't just sat around for the whole of winter....?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

2 jet2 737-300, channex 328 & 348, 2 Ryanair 737-800 and a private one from memory.
They spray de icing fluid on runway and brush off with machines.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

errr seeems like wires have got crossed here.....

are you saying they used 5 aircraft to de-ice the runway??

or that 5 aircraft were in the hold while they de-iced the runway?

i think i know the answer ;)

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I counted 4 in the hold and i think that was about half 10ish? There was a Inbound Ryanair from Gdansk, then two Jet2's from Belfast and Dussledorf and the last one to land which was the Ryanair Dublin.

The firemen and airside safety unit will have been using snow/de-ice vehicles to de-ice the runway, if you did however see an aircraft de-ice the runway, please, let me no because i'd love to see that

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
