The LHR service would work better with an extended runway as they would be less chance of it been cancelled when the weather is bad at lba and in return more customer confidence in the service. Runway restrictions in my opinion have always held lba back .

But as we already know there are no plans for a runway extension. This has been done several times now over the last few weeks. If you look back on here I'm sure you'll find the answers to your question as to what realisticly could be done to improve the bad weather operations of LBA's runway.

Hopefully this post will answer the points raised by muscleboy33.

As far as the Runway 14 Cat 2 is concerned, my frustration comes from the fact that I have been attending these meetings now for some 15 years or more, and successive airport directors have told us that they were working with the CAA to install CAT2. We don't seem to be any closer now than we were 10 years ago based on what we are being told, and although the diversion rates through low vis are lower than most anti airport people would have us believe, they are still higher than many regional airports. We were told on Thursday at the meeting that on that day, with heavy fog, quite a number of the flights would have got in with Cat2, on 14. whereas all diverted until mid afternoon.

Re the displaced threshold on 32, I don't doubt what you say at all - you clearly know about this - but again, we have been told repeatedly that the airport was looking at moving the touch-down point closer to the Horsforth end of the runway to provide a longer landing distance - in fact this was one of the reasons given why a runway extension would not be necessary - not by this board, but by the previous council owned board. When I asked about this on Thursday, I was told it was still 'being looked at' with the CAA.

I guess if you can take the touchdown point back around 300metres which can easily be done then you dont need a 300metre runway extension

high muscleboy
this has been gone thro times many and if it was as easy as that I think it would have been done years ago.

Global express VP-BVM came in a short time ago. It's on the south side.

Another KLM Embraer 190 today PH-EZD has just departed on runway 32. Also a Gulfstram 4 or 5 landed around 0730 but I didnt get the registration.

Do we know if this increased use of the KLM Embraer 190 is due to increased passenger loadings on the route or is it just for convenience/shortage of serviceable Fokker 70's until the full Embraer service starts next year.

Another KLM city hopper Embrear 190, PH-EZI on this mornings 2 hour delayed KLM1545/1546 rotation.

Have heard and read elsewhere that KLM are sending the Embrear 190 into Leeds for Crew training purposes and also get it certified for either CATII/III ops..

Lets hope its Cat 3A at least ! what an improvement that would make to the winter diversion rates. What do you reckon we have now, is it between 10 to 20 diversions each winter with the F70 ?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
