Personally, I'd like to see Jet2 venture a little further South. Calling your airline a "northern airline" only limits future growth potential.

I think jet 2 would be a perfect choice for Brs especially given the limited offerings from extra and fr on destinations such as Greece and Cyprus etc . The other one to think about is Monarch which again would offer something different

I doubt that it would be Jet2 or Monarch although either would be a very welcome addition.

I wonder if it's Eastern. They are now operating the Airbus Corporate Shuttle on the Toulouse and Hawarden routes, replacing bmi regional, and if the latter doesn't operate MXP in the summer Eastern could perhaps be in a position to do so.

Eastern has operated from BRS in the past, including the Aberdeen and Isle of Man routes.

If it was eastern it would be a bit underwhelming though . I note though that bmi have still not put mxp on sale for next summer

My guess is that we wouldn't see the likes of jet 2 or monarch setting up shop anytime soon.. I believe monarch has gone through quite a bit of re structure and seem to focus on a handful of key airports in the UK. More likely I think that expansion of new routes in the main will come from the airlines already at Bristol.. Possibly Wizz adding a bit more maybe.. I agree with eastern comment, for me that would also be a little underwhelming..

I would like to see someone like Norwegian come in with a few routes to add some competition. Very good airline and service but unlikely I think with them at BHX. Further a field maybe BRS have been looking at airlines like Pegasus for Turkey although I don't believe they have smh alliance connections to offer on forward travel..

Finally, I think it would be nice in the fullness of time to see a few more state carriers come back. Easy do very well to the likes of France, Switzerland and Spain.. I wonder why if KLM can make it work, other airlines couldn't? Iberia express or hop?? I guess we will wait and see what plays out this year! Great news about the punctuality award. BRS flying the flag for UK airports it seems.

I think you've right forest1979. You're might be right with your Pegasus theory. Sometime ago they said they were looking at scheduled flights to the UK. I think last week saw the airline announce flights to Manchester so maybe we'll be seeing more from them over the next couple of weeks or so.

Not that I'm aware.

When I heard the Radio Bristol news summary this morning saying that BRS was close to reinstating its New York flight I did wonder what might be about to be announced. However, given the CEO's words in the subsequent interview that doesn't seem a likely imminent contender for a new airline announcement.

Milan MXP

Still no news of a possible replacement for bmi regional that still seems to be axing this route from March. I wonder what Augusta Westlands will do. They seem to make use of the MXP flights on Mondays and Fridays with a coach arriving with employees for the flights every week, presumably from Yeovil.

A couple of years ago there were two bmir MXP rotations on Mondays and Fridays, one a charter (presumably for Augusta Westlands) and the other the public service.

Perhaps a charter will be reinstated either from BRS or EXT.

Flybe is increasing its MXP provision from CWL to 4 x weekly this summer. It's unlikely that it's in response to bmir's apparent withdrawal as the increase was announced a while ago as a part of a realignment of its CWL routes frequencies with some reduced in frequency (eg DUS, MUC and DUB) and others increased (eg MXP, GLA and FAO).

It will be a novelty for CWL to have a route to an important European city that is not operated from BRS. Ryanair will still operate its BRS flight to Bergamo which is in the general Milan area.

If EZY or FR were to fly direct to the Azores wouldnt that be brilliant. Atleast BRS could claim to have a scheduled Atlantic route

Actually that route is quite possible as Azores have recently opened up to budget airlines and EZY fly there from Lisbon

I suppose we already have some Atlantic routes with the likes of the Canary Islands, Madeira and Cape Verde, as well as those other routes that overfly the Bay of Biscay.

I'm still very surprised that easyJet opted for Basel at 4 x weekly but don't fly to Milan Malpensa. I would have thought that MXP would always be a better bet than BSL.

I have checked out the Azores via Lisbon route. Surprisingly cheap for April. One night in Lisbon due to flight times.

Pencilled in for Apr 2017. Cant wait.

I have a vague recollection that probably around ten years ago there was talk of an Azores route from BRS. I don't believe that it involved one of the regular airlines that use BRS or did so then. My best guess at this distance in time was that someone had come up with an idea for flights to the Azores and BRS was one of the airports mentioned.

I think it was more than one of those school project type imaginary airlines that sometime surface on the Internet.

Yes, it has. I had been hoping for a bit of news. I suppose that last year was so busy with a host of new routes and two new airlines being announced that we may have become a bit greedy.

It seems as though 2016 will be more of a consolidation year although the annual passenger total should still pass through seven million.

At least this year will see a 13th easyJet aircraft based during the main summer period for the first time.

Shaun Browne, Bristol Airport’s Aviation Director, gave a presentation highlighting the information given to airlines in the process of route development. This covered key information about the Airport and the wide catchment area it serves, travel and surface access information, tourist attractions and business and enterprise opportunities. The airlines attention was then drawn to aerospace aviation, including passenger number growth, new routes, potential destinations, Airport infrastructure and recent developments. Surface ‘leakage’ to London airports was an issue, but local surface access was being enhanced with projects such as the South Bristol Link. It was hoped that further announcements on new airline activity would be available as the year progressed. Members welcomed the emphasis on promoting the tourist attractions in the South West, with inbound passengers benefiting the whole of the area and different sectors of the economy. Airport management would be making a presentation on such matters at the North Somerset Tourist Conference on 28 January.

As well as easyjet boosting flights this summer, one should mention thomsons contribution this summer coming too. Despite the loss of 2 x weekly enfidna this summer we are gaining more flights to Malaga Ibiza Tenerife lanzarote larnaca Rhodes and Corfu plus a new route to faro and Cape Verde plus at the moment we are holding onto one weekly sharm flight. I wonder if we could see more expansion from them when summer 17 is launched in the spring
