Doncaster airport set for jet cargo boost

“The additional aircraft joining our cargo operations will enhance our international trade activity even further as the amount of freight being transported continues to increase, and this can only be positive news for the regional economy.”

It's good to see some positive news from the airport.

Lots of opportunities for viewing large cargo aircraft at DSA around now. An124 in and out today, AN 225 Myria due in on the 11th Nov. Also been fairly regular 747 movements in the last couple of weeks, mainly Atlas Air.
Looks like a ramping up of cargo activities between now and Christmas.

Just an update on the above, Antonov 225 is now due in on the 10th Nov, arrival 10.40am. Departure is still expected on the 12th.

Another update - some confusion over this, I'm now told that dates & times are as originally stated. The arrival WILL be on weds 11th.
Beginning to confuse me this, however, I will try to give a definitive arrival date early next week in order to avoid anyone having a wasted viewing trip.

AN 225 looks definite for Weds 11th now - AN 225 Facebook page shows weds arrival @ 10.40 am.
Tuesday would have been a bit of a squeeze as an Atlas Air 744 is due in also. Details of that are :
GTI. 5308/5309 eta 1500 etd 1700
Today saw an Il 76 on cargo, things really hotting up on the cargo side, with the airport almost doubling last years freight total of over 900 tonnes.

Hi I heard Nippon Cargo are sending two Boeing 748's in on October 4th 2016. If this is true has anyone got any idea of arrival and departure times? Cheers Tom.

Dsa have been very busy these last few weeks with Nippon Cargo A/L B747, Volgar Dnepr AN124 and today an Aviastar TU204. DHL are considering using it at a weekend whilst EMA is closed.
Cargo seems to be on the up.

I do feel cargo is the way forward for the airport although I do wonder if DSA is just too close to EMA to develop into any kind of serious cargo hub operation in the way that EMA has.

Should be a good opportunity for DSA to showcase itself. Let's hope they can make a good impression.

I remember it well. Not the greatest day for Tony Hallwood who was having to be the spokesperson for BRS on national television.

Sky News or it may have been BBC News 24 (or even both) had live coverage of the first aircraft to land after the runway re-opened. It was a Continental B 757 from Newark. I watched the coverage. No doubt the tv people were hoping for a bit of drama which, happily, they didn't get.

I agree with Aviador, cargo seems very positive and an area where they might expand. It's a natural alternative to EMA for airlines when night closures commence and will be a welcome increase in revenue I'm sure. The handling infrastructure at EMA is so firmly established that I can't see any permanent defections.
DSA is a good facility and it seems a shame seeing the Flybe scaledown (already) that there seems to be a continuing resistance by passengers to use it. It was predicted by a number of 'posters' on other areas of this forum that the E195 was clearly the wrong aircraft but additionally - too many established services at other airports? Too much airport capacity??

It might be that DSA is more suited to sun routes rather than hub routes. Also considering their is a number of Distribution centres nearby and major ports just up the road then DSA is well situated for Cargo operations. I don't know the extent of its operations but i would suggest it could be a focus for airmail from around Yorkshire instead of that being shipped to EMA or across to MAN.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
