I believe there are 2 ex Austrian Dash 8s at Exeter

G-CLMT (Ex OE-LGC) has been in a hanger for a while, and is due to be scrapped, this aircraft has no link to the "new" Flybe.

G-CLXC (Ex OE-LGA) was registered to Thyme Opco Ltd (the "new" Flybe owners) on the 20th January, and is the aircraft expected to be painted.

Is that the UK registered one? Seems odd to register it then scrap it.

I’m only aware of the ex Austrian dash they have recently taken on which is a near 22 year old airframe. The one currently at Exeter had been stripped of its props, tail fin And flaps/ slats etc before they towed it in to what is now Exeter Areospace formerely Flybe Maintance

Born again ? This deal has apparently gone through and presume CAA have allowed their operating licence to continue which protects airport slots. This was challenged a few days ago but seems to have been resolved

Flybe prepares for summer return in UK​

Flybe is preparing to return to the skies this summer after the sale of the assets of the failed airline was completed.
The joint administrators who were brought in following the demise of the regional carrier have confirmed the deal with a new company affiliated with investment adviser Cyrus Capital.
The airline, which had a hub based at Exeter Airport and also operated flights from Cornwall Airport Newquay, went into administration in March last year - with all flights grounded as a result.
The administrators confirmed that a new company, previously known as Thyme Opco, will now be renamed Flybe Limited.

The completion of the agreement - which was first signed in October - includes the transfer of Flybe jobs as well as assets and other parts of the business.
Speaking about the sale, Flybe Limited said that it is hoping to launch planes into the skies again this summer.
A Flybe spokesperson added: “We are extremely excited to announce the conclusion of almost six months of dedicated hard work by the great team at Flybe, the UK Civil Aviation Authority, the European Commission, and the many others who made this announcement possible.
“This news represents a critical first step in our mission to accomplish the first-ever rescue of an insolvent British airline.
“Subject to further success with vaccinations and relaxation of travel restrictions, we plan to launch a new and much improved Flybe sometime this summer on many of our former routes where there remains a critical need for a strong, reliable, and customer-focused airline.
“While our company will initially be smaller than before, we intend to grow, create valuable jobs, and make significant contributions to essential regional connectivity in the UK and EU.”

Will this have any effect on routes already taken up or committed to by other airlines, such as Easyjet BHX-AMS?

I also note that the report mentions operations at Exeter and Newquay airports. Is the report from a south west based media outlet?

God I hope not

I wouldn't expect too much from Flybe for a considerable time. It will be almost like starting from scratch. The south west airports will have less competition for them to try and establish themselves. I don't envisage any major developments here at BHX. They may try a few things when Covid is tamed hopefully. We still have several unserved routes for them if Easyjet don't pounce on them.

That was the old FlyBe, the new one is a new company so has no ties to Exeter.

I am still not sure forum, where exactly is this new outfit going to fly too ? All the old Flybe routes are sorted, exept a few european cities but I hardly think it going to be there main prority ? It will be the likes of JER/EDI/GLA/BHD ???

Still lots of routes unserved from BHX
Cork & Shannon now for starters
Amsterdam & Paris both underserved.
Berlin, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Hannover, Lyon etc

Cork & Shannon will be picked up by Aer Lingus or maybe Ryanair, Amsterdam underserved ? Really, don't we have multiple KLM (NORMAL Times), Jet2 and Easyjet ? Paris, mmmmmmmm could do with a bit more competition on Paris I must admit. But as for those Euro cities, again I don't think they will be there priority to start with.

Plus id rather the likes of Lufty/Eurowings pick up those german cities.

Underserved? Quite the opposite in my opinion.

There’s plenty to both from BHX. Amsterdam has KLM which in normal times have plenty of daily services and you have Jet2 which is hopeful of starting an Amsterdam service. Also easyjet have plans for a BHX-AMS service so 3 airlines on a short route is not underserved IMO.

With Paris you only have Air France but I’m sure when travel is eased further they will add the right amount of capacity.

Also remember both Amsterdam and Paris have competition with the railway as you can get to both destinations via the Eurostar.

Before covid Paris was up to six daily with AF never going above three daily and Amsterdam around nine daily with KLM four/five daily on both routes Flybe made up the balance with a mix of the E190, E75 and dash eights so there is scope for increased frequency and capacity especially the former if we ever get back to normal.

The train option was available then and I'm not sure what effect that has from the West Midlands anyway not much I would have thought.

Lots as you can get the train to London then Eurostar from there. It’s another way of Getting to AMS and Paris from the UK.

I know that but the point I'm trying to make is that the routes supported up fifteen flights daily regardless of the train option and bearing in mind that the AF/KLM flights were timed to coincide with their worldwide connections. Also I'm pretty sure that to get the Eurostar from Birmingham you have to transfer stations on arrival in London so not particularly convenient with luggage and or kids in tow and not really viable for either an onward flight connection or a day return business trip.

I Agree. I was just a point as one of the users thinks they are underserved.
