Just out of curiosity has PIA ever operated from BHX or is the local ethnicity not correct ?

Blimey Carl, I arrived from Alicante around 2pm today and the airport was heaving with meeters and greeters as well as the seeing you off crew.

Same with Air India tonight.its just New York we're hopeless at and footy of course.

Lol

Ryanair flight O.K. boarding process though took 50 minutes they need to sort their new luggage arrangements based on our flights or forget 20/30 minute turn rounds.

Some useful stats on Air India at BHX in 2017, thanks to Olton Pete on the other forum. (y)

Again puts to bed the assumption that BHX is all about Amritsar ATQ. Delhi is equally as popular from BHX as the stats confirm.

2017 pax 154439 up 10% - 2016 140338.

Amritsar 75733 (49%)
Delhi 78706 (51%)

It is a good point there BrumX.
I see passengers with transits to many other Indian cities as well as Bangkok,Kuala Lumpur and many others.
This service has really matured in the last 2 years or so.
Air India seem to be doing a decent job.Let’s hope it continues.

On the contrary, it would seem that Amritsar could probably justify its own service in addition to Delhi.

A second carrier could maybe serve ATQ and possibly Mumbai as AI used to do originally.

Indeed it does kinda show that ATQ is the largest market in India. Anyone flying to ATQ will most likely have ATQ as their final destination as that airport is pretty small. However with DEL being AIs main hub, people flying to DEL will likely fly to a lot of other onward destinations.

Consequently ATQ could probably sustain its on direct flights, but anywhere else would likely depend on onward connections which DEL currently does.

AI offered some favourable fares from BHX when I searched Skyscanner for flights to Sri Lanka and Bangkok ...offering some good connection times too.

Would be interested to know where ppl head after Del

There was an article not long after Air India returned suggesting that circa 12% of their Birmingham customers were connecting on to Australia. It may not sound much but when you consider the competition from Emirates it's not actually too bad a number.

There are a lot of connections on to other Indian cities, it would be interesting to see a breakdown as to the most popular. I think one of the issues with Amritsar is that it's generally considered the lower yielding traffic as oppose to Delhi and beyond. I've always thought that it would be a perfect route for a loco.

Are you ready? Just 3 days left for the inaugural flight from Amritsar to Birmingham [Direct] onboard the Dream)liner This flight would service twice a week operated by @airindiain

This is the only Direct flight from/to the UK, so isnt just for the Birmingham area. Im sure people in Leeds and some parts of London may use this service too and maybe that is the message they want to get across.

If you live in Huddersfield you may have previously travelled from MAN with Qatar or another airline rather than travelling down to BHX and then having to stop off at Delhi.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Totally agree Brum X. Great to see an airline selling the UK, well England, via Brum!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
