I have just read the unedited AAIB report into this incident and it shows a photograph of the aircraft from behind the tailplane at ground perspective.

Have a look at the tyre marks, can anyone suggest that the surface was damp at the moment of the incident.

AAIB, Monthly Bulletin August 2016, Birmingham Airport etc., in full details not reported by the alleged newspaper.

My question/suggestion to avoid such incidents is to adjust all entry/exits of taxiways so that there be no hard 90° turns, install hard run off shoulders similar to Formula One racetracks, painted green if necessary for appearances of grass but minimizing the risk of wheels sinking into mud.

As for the commander, his record can be read in the report, he knows his job so I suggest he was caught out by conditions of the day as most of us know the challenges of Landing at BHX on windy days.

There was an incident at BHX yesterday (24th August) that involved a Thomson 738 departing to Paphos in Cyprus. I am hearing that it was a Bird Strike. The plane landed safely back to BHX.

I found the 'comments' below the article to better journalism than from the alleged reporter of this incident. Factual, entertaining and 'BooBoo' was the best comment.

I hope I never travel with that delicate female, she just may squeal when the landing gear deploys or the wings begin to flex etc., drive me nuts would that!!

There were 2 other incidents on planes departing from BHX yesterday.
The first was another bird strike, this one was when the Qatar Dreamliner lifted off from 33.
The pilot reported he thought he may have hit a bird on take off.The ATC then requested a runway inspection, following which the remains of a Sparrowhawk were found. The runway was cleared of debris and reopened soon afterwards. The Qatar flight continued on to Doha with no problems.
The second was the Stobart/Aer Lingus flight to Cork,EI3701.Apparently smoke was seen coming from the cockpit. The flight was only a few minutes from landing,so an emergency was declared and it landed safely,no injuries.
Bird strikes in particular are a big problem at most airports, but we do seem to get a lot of them at BHX.This is despite having someone regularly patrolling the airport perimeter and letting off various devices designed to scare birds away.

as per the Birmingham Mail:-

Air France passenger flight was struck by LIGHTNING as it travelled from Paris to Birmingham Airport
Up to 150 passengers on Air France flight 1064 today

The pilot declared an emergency shortly before preparing to land at Birmingham Airport (BHX).

Airline Air France has now confirmed the A320 had been hit by a lightning bolt before it landed safely shortly before 1.40pm

A spokesman for the aircraft confirmed no one was injured in the incident.

"I can confirm that AF1064 was hit by lightning during flight from Paris with an emergency being declared as a precaution," he said.

"The aircraft has since landed safely at Birmingham Airport with no emergency response needed and with no injuries to passengers or crew. All passengers have since disembarked the aircraft safely from the airport stand as usual"

I remember the British Airways BAC 1-11 windscreen incident many years ago. A Flight from BHX to Malaga had to divert to Southampton when a front windscreen popped out!. It was extremely nasty for the pilots and covered in all the media at the time.

Remember it well too. G-BJRT BA5390 10/6/1990 window blew out in front of captain at 17,000 feet over Oxfordshire. He was sucked half out while cabin crew desperately hung onto his legs. Eventually found that the majority of the retaining bolts fitted after a window change were the wrong diameter.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
