I've been searching through a few old storage boxes and came across some old photographs. Unfortunately, I didn't find the negatives, so the following are from scans of prints. The quality therefore isn't as good as I would like, but still hope you enjoy the shots.
I'll start with a few visitors to BHX for the G8 Summit Conference in 1998.

Fantastic photos Kevin I was self employed at the time so I I was able to spend loads of time to watch the coming and goings mostly from what is now car park5 (cost a fortune in parking ).Missed Air Force One though.

Thanks again.

Could it be the transport for the U.S. press core for Ryder Cup at the Belfry I well remember the actual team came in on a chartered Concord the show offs.
That's a possibility, Rollo.

Also in view is the nose of a Turkmenistan B757 in the old blue colour scheme. Behind the aircraft is temporary fencing, which would indicate that apron expansion construction work was going on. Would this time with the Ryder Cup?
At the time, I was told that the Concorde service from JFK to BHX was in fact a rescheduled JFK-LHR service and not a charter so that BHX had a scheduled supersonic service from JFK (even if it was a one off). Can anyone confirm or correct this?

Kevin

Fantastic pictures, they really took me on a trip down memory lane :)

Also great to see MAEL having a booming winter (y)
The Framework Plan for UK Hub Central talks up the growth in maintenance at BHX which is interesting. Little talk of cargo.....maybe we could become a national strategic facility as the number of bases grow. Centre of aviation engineering....

With the way that MAEL have been gaining contracts I could definitely see that happening, especially if the much rumoured third bay ever gets built.

The one spanner in the works is Boeing's own hangar planned for LGW. I imagine it could/would be much more efficient for the likes of Virgin and Norwegian to get their 787 work done there when it opens? I guess we'll see.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
