It's just the standard editing software :(

I've not got Photoshop but I think I may get it soon. I'm not sure whether to go for Lightroom or Elements, does anybody use either?

Hiya Ray, I use LR5 its a great editing platform with some great tools, I use the masks in it a lot.
It takes a bit of looking around for it as Lightroom will try to get you to subscribe to thier latest version but not as a purchased item but on a monthly thing.

Hi Ray

I assume by 'standard editing software' you are referring to software that came with your camera (I'd be surprised if you'd managed the above effect with Microsoft Paint).

What you need to determine, is what do you want to achieve with editing software? Is your current software capable of your desired results?

I do all of my RAW editing (exposure, sharpening, contrast/brightness, straightening and shadow/highlight protection) using Nikon View NX (I also have Nikon Capture NX, since Nikon made it freeware).
I only use Photoshop (I have CS5.1, as Adobe offered it to me for half price) or Photoshop Elements for a final clean up (Spot Healing Brush) and cropping/re-sizing.

I've not tried Lightroom, but have a friend who loves it. Any of Photoshop, Elements or Lightroom will allow you to carry out more complex tasks and the use of Layers.

As Snagsanger says, GIMP is an excellent and powerful freeware program. I have used it in the past and you may find it useful for determining which techniques you would make use of, prior to committing to expensive software. Or you may even choose to stay with GIMP.

Hope this helps

Kevin

Great pics, as always. What was the WOW aircraft doing at BHX? It's doesn't operate a regular route, does it?

I earnestly hope you photographers had the mindset to copyright those images!!

I very much enjoy seeing them but fear the potential loss of income and intellectual rights to your work.

Five years later, one of these images may appear upon a photographic calender in Delhi or Durban or Lima and one would need a very expensive legal team to recover and protect your property.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
