The other thing to consider with diversions is that although the pilots will consult the company to see if they have a preference for where they divert, ultimately the decision of where they go rests with the captain. If there are two airports which are viewed equally by the company for a diversion but the pilots have been to one of them before, they may opt to divert there as they're familiar with that airport.
The problem with drones is what can really be done to stop them? Making people get a licence to fly a drone won't necessarily stop people that really want to disrupt operations. There's been suggestion that you can 'geo protect' places with GPS, whereby the drone is fitted with GPS and once it enters the protected area it shuts down. That doesn't stop people getting a drone and disabling this feature however.
