Currently sat in the new terminal extension departures.

Does anyone know what works are currently happening on the runway near the mid section? Lots of flashing lights out there.

Temporary runway repair in the early hours of the 25th and 26th.

Assuming things haven't changed too much, the airfield groundmen carry out runway repairs. They're the same team that cut the grass and help out with other general airfield duties.

Airfield groundsmen were got rid of long ago! In recent years its been Airfield Ops that have done most of the emergency repairs, sometimes assisted by AGL engineers. It's also Ops that now do the grass cutting.

The airport still have a grounds team that predominantly work in the landside areas, with the exception of some grassed banking's.

The majority of airfield grass cutting is done by airside operations.

Airside operations can conduct very minor touch up repairs but everything else is done by a contractor. They also do the block replacements that take all night.

I believe the landside team is 3 staff. When I started working at LBA about 18 years ago, the airside team was 4 strong. Then reduced to 2 and eventually none with the roles going to Airside ops. The airfield looked a lot better when there was a permanent team doing the work. Check out the weed growth along the edges of taxiway N or M.

Well LBA will have 24x Stands available next year 2026 season. I understand 22 stands will be taken by overnight based aircraft with 2x remaining spare. (Unless somebody takes them up)

Not the best photo but the new stands are in the final stages of pouring, and with excavators gone i can't imagine there's much left to do besides lighting and painting

Quite possibly as at the ACC they said they won't be in use until February. They are already underway on planning the next two.

What's MARS stand for?

Forget that. Looked it up. AI seemingly does have its uses. Multiple Aircraft Stand System.

Nothing has been said to indicate this or that the apron generally will be re-marked. That diesnt mean it might not happen though at some point in the apron expansion process.
