Flybe route network from Leeds has just increased from 3x to 5x direct routes: includes its own services to Belfast City, Dusseldorf and Newquay along with its new franchise partners routes to Aberdeen and Southampton.

What is more interesting is the fact Glasgow has not been removed from the drop down menu of destinations available from Leeds yet. Even though no flights are bookable.

Flybe along with its franchise partner Eastern Airways winter 2017/18 timetable will operate as follows:

I've just recived an email from Flybe's saying that there summer 2018 flights running up until September 9th will go on sale this coming Thursday.

Wonder if Eastern Airways will continue to operate the Leeds-Southampton-Rodez service under Flybe's franchise agreement?

The flights are indeed on sale - have just booked DUS to LBA next July - the essential price was £66 and the price with bag was £98.

Just had a look at availability LBA - DUS - LBA for today. Still pretty cheap outbound but the inbound is full. Probably because there will have been lots of pax outbound on an LS plane twice the size. Looking at the "month view" on the BE website there are some days when it's expensive so loads probably good but lots of cheap ones too suggesting not so good. However it's very much a business orientated route so will be lots of last minute bookings. Let's hope it's a success for BE and they improve the timings from a business perspective.

If they carry the passengers Jet2 did, most flights on a Dash 8 will be pretty full. My only worry is there is still a perception among some people that propellor power equals old outdated aircraft and therefore to be avoided. I have already had to persuade a friend who flies to DUS regularly with Jet2 to travel on the Flybe service from LBA when her first instinct was to go over to MAN and fly on a 'proper' plane. Fortunately, she is giving it a go, encouraged also by the good departure and arrival times offered .

That is what you would think but I can tell you that that isn't the case. Unless there has been a dramatic change, I can assure you the Leeds Dusseldorf route isn't frequented by business passengers on the whole. Generally speaking the flight is used by back-packers, tourists visiting Yorkshire and squaddies heading to Germany rather than business passengers. If Flybe decided to go double daily on the route things might be different.

The route will work for Flybe. As was said a few months ago I am hoping this makes them realise the full LBA potential and other routes may follow. Especially if T3 end up with a spare a/c or two when they cut their losses from head to head competition with LM. They certainly couldn't lose more money on LBA GLA and LBA CDG than they are doing in the Highlands currently! And that's just the start!

If this is the case, and to be fair pretty much every time I have used Flybe the aircraft has been 90% full, it is more down to Flybe to convince potential passengers that their aircraft are more than suitable than it is for the passengers to take a leap of faith. It would probably help if their aircraft interiors were a little bit nicer and more rigorously maintained - they do tend to rattle somewhat as a result of loose interior plastics. I compare this directly to Stobart's ATRs which are much quieter, smoother and generally nicer to fly on, particularly those in use with Aer Lingus.

Having said that, I've never had an issue with the Flybe Dash 8s and, actually, they are probably superior to Jet2's 737-300s which, frankly, have tired me out every time I've used them.

As Flybe the nominated carrier for Disneyland Paris, would make sense for a LBA to CDG service to be operated. Booking Disneyland tickets recently could fly from basically every northern airport except LBA.

Also they have a very good relationship with Air France for long and short haul connections.

The booking engine once you chose your airport allows either a Air France or Flybe booking, we flew out with air france and returned with Flybe, really due to flight times.

The airport issued the following press release this morning regards Flybe's winter 2017/18 schedule.

Most interesting part is the following statement made by the Airports Aviation Development Director, Chris Sanders.
“This latest service from Leeds Bradford Airport is an indication of the intention we have to strengthen our route offering and increase international connectivity for Yorkshire.”

If Jet2 are going to drop the city routes like Dusseldorf and possibly Amsterdam and Paris then they would be ideal routes for Flybe to take over.

Dash 8 G-ECOK is with us tonight. She wears the dark blue Brussels Airlines fin but no 'b' logo or other markings.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
