Are you suggesting that the c virus won't have any effect on published flying programmes and that airlines can look forward to a rosy Spring and Summer and won't be affected at all by the current medical situation we are faced with?

Hummmm I never said it wasn't, As I already know that Corona Virus is having an major effect on Airlines worldwide not just here in the UK..

Flybe didn't just collapse because of Corona Virus. Yes agree it would have hit recent sales but the airline had been failing for years, losing money like no tomorrow.
Its mega rich shareholders Virgin, Delta & Stobart Group wouldn't put yet more money in to a sinking ship. Hence the reason the Government wouldn't bail them out to a tune of £100 million, it would have just gone no where hence sadly Flybe had no where to go at the end.

I just think the whole thing is being over hyped by the gutter press, They seem to be getting better good at sh-t stirring too

The Press will always hype stories to suit their own ends, ie sell newspapers. However the number of deaths worldwide is growing and must be of concern to everyone, not least the airlines, who are already suffering from weak bookings due to passengers sitting on their hands and waiting to see what happens next. These lost passengers are the airlines cash flow.

Despite what the Press may say, and I agree with everything you say in your post, the loss of Flybe and passengers holding back on making bookings is likely to impact further on the airline industry in the coming months. Yes of course some of the Flybe routes will be taken over by exFlybe franchise holders and such as Loganair in Scotland but the 210+ Flybe routes will not be fully replicated so there will be losses.

Of particular interest to LBA will be the Belfast route on which Flybe operated over 20 return flights a week. Your earlier suggestion that maybe someone will opt to try a twice daily service is probably the best we can hope for.

To put things in context all I was suggesting in my original post was that due to the current medical situation there won't be the sort of rush to add flights to existing programmes that might have been the case in more normal times. I had no intention to either confuse or mislead. It appears that is what I did though.

This gives details of the 16 routes logainair are taking over. It also gives a good impression of just how much airlines are cutting back globally in response to the virus.

It's just typical that when you look at all the replacement routes announced by Eastern and Loganair, guess which airport doesn't get a mention??

LBA-BHD was a very strong performer for Flybe. It's surprising that Eastern have decided to use the aircraft they have to go head-to-head with Loganair on NCL-SOU and ABZ-BHX yet leave LBA-BHD - an airport where they have an operating base - unserved. Looking rather like someone's been at the magic mushrooms.

It really is a puzzler and it always happens at LBA , you can guess straight away which airport will be left out! I bet just 3 flights a day to Belfast from lba and the aircraft would be full within weeks if a new operator came onboard!

I'm surprised Eastern aren't having ago at LBA - Belfast but its early days

They interviewed the manager of Belfast airport last night and he was clear that he was working with airlines and airports to reinstate routes but it might take a few days! Given the carryings too LBA, I would expect us to be pretty high on that list!

But that was the City airport LBA use the International one which is overrun with Easyjet.

You sure about that!
Flybe flights from Leeds/Bradford were to Belfast City and it was there manager whom appeared on TV last night. We've not had flights to Belfast International since Jet2 pulled the service.

What they going to call it, Flybj? Might have a certain appeal to the mile high club! Now joking apart and I have no idea what any legal implications may actually be, is this the loop hole needed for the government bailout? Also does RB then stand to benefit any? The industry is definitely in need of some good news so anything that is possible should be looked at. That said there are numerous industries that need financial help. Let's hope the UK peak is just around the corner, alas I fear that may be optimistic and we have a very very long road ahead of us

By the time they get a rescue package together all the best routes will have been taken up by Loganair and Eastern so competition will be fierce if Flybe do come back.
Remember when Sabena failed and Bmi jumped on the Lba to Brussels route before Brussels Airlines was formed from the Sabena pool of aircraft and staff.

An interesting report Offint but to be honest I can't see the Govt (or anyone else for that matter) stepping in and resurecting Flybe. Why should they? Flybe have gone and in these most difficult times (a) who wants to start currently loss making routes and (b) the Govt hasn't really got any more money to spare what with all they have shelled out so far with more demands on their purse on their way.

A bit of a typical journo story me thinks.

I think if the government were going to help anyone it would be Loganair with respect to UK regional air travel.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
