There was a 'gobstopper' vending machine outside

Used to get a bag of chips as I walked back home can't beat them on a cold night, don't remember the gobbstopper machine but should have got some for the future she who must be obeyed not sure how effective they would be?
Don't worry she shares my sense of humor (mostly )

Definitely a a sweet dispensing machine on the paved area outside the chip shop.
I am going back to the early seventies so it may have been removed long before the chippy closed

Not really for whipper snappers I suppose, the Brownie was great just point and press the button and wind the film on to the next frame when done take it to the chemists to get it developed so you could seen your crap photos that you had taken .

Days of your life.

Many-a-time many-a-time. :) Did anybody ever get a nice surprise though? It happened once or twice for me.

Not BHX but I was chuffed with these when they returned: (I wont post them here:smuggrin:)

My memory goes back as far as one of these.

Always heart breaking when you got one of those exposure warning stickers on your photograph :(

My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic -

and I still have it, with it's box and polystyrene packaging.
I think I was aged about 5 or 6. I remember that we had gone to London for a few days. One of the highlights was going to see London Zoo's baby polar bear Pipaluk (those of us of a certain age will remember). Another highlight of the same trip was a visit to Heathrow. I remember seeing 4 Boeing 747's (2 BOAC although, they were on strike and 2 Pan Am one of which departed) of which I have photos taken with the camera (the aircraft look tiny on 3 inch square pictures).

Wish I still had my Brum photo collection from the many many visits I used to make, Im sure I had a couple of thousand all nice and tidy in those sticky back cling film cover foto albums, alas gone.

I'm sure that many of us here wish you still had them :(. Would have loved to have seen them.

Yep I was at the drome almost every day (well nearly) from 1975 to about 2000 with less frequency later, I used quite a few different cameras from from a Halina to a Canon EOS 650 slr, looking back went through the shere excitement of diversion days and the footy charters and biz jet days due to the NEC, and the Mil charters we had, and the often dull days standing on the spiral steps, on the grass bank down the golf course, in the different viewing areas or on the new side long stay grass bank.

I miss those days though.

I miss those days too. I used to go to the very same places. I also remember watching the diversions. I can remember sitting on the grass bank at the golf course on a lovely summers day (I recall Manchester Fire service were on strike) and seeing amongst others a Kar-Air DC-8 divert in. I can also remember the same location (I'm not sure it was the same day, but great weather) and Lufthansa's Junkers 52 was transiting the zone. ATC aksed 'erm..any chance of a flypast?' to which the answer was 'yes sir'. I took some photos, which I'm sure I still have but will take some digging out.

Kevin

Ray, please move these last few posts to 'Random Stuff' or 'Nostalgia at BHX', if you think appropriate.

Sorry, E. I wasn't casting any blame. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going off topic. I think that you have brought up a very interesting subject, which brings back many happy memories for me. From your post, I think we must have been at BHX on the same occasions many times. I was just asking Ray to move the discussion to a more appropriate section where we could continue. I have may other memories and would be interested to know if you were at BHX at the same time.

I would love to think I stood next to folk on here in my spotting days, there was always the familiar faces and a few names I remember (well their nick names) Tiny, Wurzle, fudge to name a few.
Then of course there was Swinburn Aviation and the family(as was soken about on here before) with their old shop in Hanger Lane (old Elmdon side) then in the Aviation Experience over in the present terminal, remeber AJ Myatt big time Brummy suppporter, and creater of the movement sheets.

Occasions when I was at Elmdon and the new side were - When we had the first 747 (Qantas) also when we had the first concorde the Air France one, I was down at the viewing area on the grass near the Warwickshire Aero Club building, then all those great weather diversions 79,80,81,82,83 I was on the spiral or on the cov road near the crash gate across the road from the chippy, I was on the spiral that day when Lady Diana flew in off a RAF 748 and was greeted by the lord mayor outside hangar 1 (I had a photo I took but now gone)
Then Euro 96 I was there most days mostly up on the NCP car park Elmdon side, either on the top or next level down as I remember we had a bit or rain on those days, then when we had the G8 summits - I was mostly on the spiral again and down the golf course.
I also used to spend a fair bit of time in the Aviation Experience building in the new terminal, and chatting to Adrian in the shop about the books I sold him and the book project he had off me.

Good days.

Have being trying to post some pictures of my camera but am having trouble uploading them. I have reduced them as normal but no joy. Any ideas?

I think when I reduced them they were dvga or something like that. Forgive my ignorance but I don't know much about this sort of thing! This happened last time and eventually the picture uploaded in it's original size. I'll try again in a minute.

No good. The images are jpg. If I try in there original size the box that tells you the % of the upload goes up to 100 % but then the error message appears. If I try the reduced size it goes straight to the error message.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
