Only 1 as far as I know,22 December 1993 when ADB UR-64460 arrived from Kiev to operate a cargo flight to St.Petersburg with clothes for an Oldbury company.Landed at 4pm and left 0330 next morning.I was going to go and see it but it was raining heavily and didn`t go in the end.Have never seen any pictures of it at BHX,does anyone have any? Regards,Simon.

I saw it simon, I went up to the last but one level of the multi storey elmdon side, I didn't see it arrive but saw it parked on the 06 end of the 06-24 runway, lorries where ferrying back and forth from it.
It was quite a sight.

This has been planned for quite a while. I think some got their hopes up when the front of the building got a lick of paint.

There have been one or two rumours about what the site will be used for but we should know for sure when the master plan is revealed.

Just heard via the Elmdon Social Media site that the old terminal building is undergoing a structural survey and it's looking as though it will be getting demolished. Sad day for people my age who spent a lot of their childhood there :poop:
That really is a shame. An airport terminal nearly 80 years old almost in its original state. There aren't many of them
in them world. It really deserves be taken apart and rebuilt at an aviation museum.Realistically i know that is unlikely
but such a shame BHX do not have the space to preserve it as Dublin Airport has done so well with their original terminal.
At least i hope they have an open day for those of us with memories of it to have a last look around before the bulldozers move in.

Thought there was a preservation order on it would be a real shame it's a blast from the past and part of Brums heritage if it goes as that would only leave hanger 2 unless you count the windsocks?

Is hanger 2 due to go as well? I seem to remember something on here a while ago from Ian.

Hangar 2 will be coming down.

The sooner the better as views from the car park will be massively improved.
The view from our office will improve a hell of a lot as well. Shame about the old terminal building though. If it does come down there will be a heck of a lot of unhappy people around. All in all BHX does not seemto be having a good time at the moment.

="58terminus, post: 130651, member: 8577"]And how long do think that car park will survive Ray?
I would like to thimk the car park will be around for a while when you see how many virgin media herberts are parking up in there. Pains in the rear end in the mornings with them queuing up to collect their passes for the car park and dont get me started on the shuttle service! Bloody minibus just gets in the way when you're trying to park up.

Whether the site is developed into a new terminal or a cargo facility parking will be needed so it would make sense to keep the multi storey.

The last rumour was a possible loco terminal with 10/12 parking stands.

Hopefully we'll see the master plan at some point this year.

As an expat Brummie who first visited Elmdon in about 1964 and worked in the terminal from 1972 until we decamped across the runway in 1984. I too am disappointed in what now looks likes to be its demise. I too have some great memories about my time there, they cant take that away but now it is time to move on. 40 years in aviation has taught me that nothing ever stays the same, airlines come, airlines go, there are good years and bad but never dull years. There is so much unnecessary gloom at present on the Birmingham forum, the airport has never been in such positive state, remember how it was just a couple of years ago? With so much development going on in the city and the surrounding region, the opportunities for the airport have never been better. Chins up chaps !

To cheer us up how about some self indulgent speculation regarding Mr Finkle's comment about the rumour re the loco terminal - which is likely to be a tin shed but could be a tin shed with a flat roof and on this roof at minimal cost could be a viewing facility - highly unlikely, however I remain positive.

I came across this picture on Twitter but have no idea who took it as there was no credit.

If it belongs to anybody let me know and I will of course add full credit to the taker.

I had a good look around the old terminal on the last day of operation on the basis that i might never be able to
gain access in the future.

As the evening wore on with just a couple of inbounds remaining i walked around and took some last minute photos.

There was no fuss at all, in fact the place was a bit like a ghost town, very sad day.

I can remember doing the same thing with Hanger 3 when that closed down. Memories of visiting both BA Skyload and HMRC Long Room and also delivering goods in for export and seeing a whole host of greyhounds waiting for their flight out to DUB. Looking out of the door and watching the flights come in (and keeping my hands over my ears because you were that close the noise was deafening). It is called progress but I sometimes do hanker for the old days when things were not so problematic. Everyone knew what was expected of them and just got on with things. I suppose this is a sure sign that I am getting on in age!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
