BHX LOG/INFO April 1983,

Genair suspended their NWI/LPL flight at the end of April, whilst Dan Air have cancelled their IOM Summer only flights due to low demand. With Birmingham Executive Jetstream 31 G-OBEA paid its first visit on 29/4 f/t PIK,following official handover on 27/4.
Passenger figures for April were up on last year by 7.8% to 115,662 an increase of 8,386.Of these 5,600 were due to another dispute at Manchester which led to a closure for a couple of days.
April was a excellent month for charters with the Packex/Brewex shows at the NEC.

Does 15 have more noise issues then than 33. I know 15 has a flight path over my house Which I don't mind not sure if the people of Walsall and so on mind but it ay exactly loud and frequent like LHR
Living where i am, just east of the 15 approach and 33 climb out, range 3.5 DME, the modern aircraft of all types are a damn more quiet than during the 1970's and 80's. BAC 1-11's, Trident, Comets, Coronado, and early 737's were so much noisier.

I grew up in Bordesley Green and the 1-11’s were ridiculously noisy even with hush kits you heard then landing and taking off

They had the Gnat until 1979, can anyone remember Red Arrows at BHX in the 60's or 70's ?
I cannot remember them back then at BHX but they must of done many fly pasts and they took part in the flying display on the opening of the new terminal in 1984 so Hawks.

I certainly recall as a teenager the Red Arrows performing annually at the Billesley Common air display the mid sixties so would have been Folland Gnats along with amongst other things a very noisy Harrier landing in a cloud of dust. Wouldn't be allowed these days would attract rebellion this and that plus any other assorted nutters.

Off topic again.

I too remember the Red Arrows being resident for 3 or 4 days when the new terminal opened in 1984. 10 Hawks, including the 'spare', all lined up along the apron opposite the Eurohub. They used to go off, do a display somewhere, and return an hour or two later.
No recollection of Folland Gnats though.

Wow some spectacular things in those days 😍

What a sight for sore eyes! Even the almost invisible Hercules there. I guess this was taken from that viewing enclosure somewhere to the west of the old terminal my dad used to take me to back in the 60's 70's.

Hi Gary, looks to far away for the viewing area, probably taken from the footpath al along the Coventry Road when there were less trees around!

Yep definitely near the gate crash you can see one of the approach lights in the bottom left of the photograph for 06/24, the viewing area and cafe didn't go past the apron edge.

Ah, I don't think we ever tried those. Just the viewing area, the steps next to the terminal, and the little country lane in Marston Green which finished close to the start of runway 24.

If Any of you guys can help with any of these tie-ups, it would be greatly appreciated
Would love to help, but it's going a long way back. Elmdon74 (Simon) often posts listings of older BHX movements here, but whether he keeps complete records or just unusual traffic, I'm not sure. Also, IanFarquharson keeps detailed records of BHX movements (and even has his own blog listing them), but again it will depend on whether he has records going back that far.

Well if we're going down that route, does anyone have the regs of flight KT486 and 487 L1011 TriStar both ways LGW - ACE 5th October 1989 to 12th October 1989. I've never asked as I thought nobody would have those details for so long ago. I still don't think anybody would have, but there you go. Thanks in advance if anybody does 🙏😎

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
