If an approach was made to the relevant people I'm wondering what the chances would be of allowing a small group inside the old terminal building just for a bit of nostalgia.
I wish I'd been able to have a another look in side the old viewing and departure lounges but alas they are now gone.:(

I am unsure if the 'Airport' company currently have either ownership or management competences over the building, not the airfield but the building, considering the fact that Marshall and Monarch have taken significant space for their operations. The A45 area space is 'old terminal' and has evolved separately from 'New Terminal'.

Someone better informed can enlighten us but if Elmdon could be legally designated as a community asset and thus protected from unwarranted development but equally developed for the benefit of said community, then something positive may emerge!!

just came across someones flickr album of birmingham in the 1970s. I had already seen odd photos taken by this guy who obviously had access airside but never the whole album. Some brilliant pictures on there including a dan air 727 that looked as though it had slipped off the runway in snow. Dont know if you should put up links on the forum but if you google G BDAN birmingham and look for the 727 taking off you can find the album. Apologies if you've already seen it.

Just watched those half a dozen times. Still can't id the road at the end of the second one.

Yes, the flying schools did make a lot of use of 06/24. I even had a go on it myself, when my parents bought me a trial flying lesson for my 21st. As we were on approach for 24, I could see a One-Eleven on approach to 33.
As for the Twin Otters, I think they could take off from a manhole cover.
Over the years, I've seen quite a variety of aircraft use 24, particularly with strong winds (30 Kts or more) straight down the runway. These have included Viscounts, 748's, ATP's, One-Elevens and even a 737-200.

dont think so because the viscount has passed over the A45 immediately after take off unless its destination is to the north in which case it would pass back over the A45 but in the opposite direction.

I've looked a few times and can't work it out. There seems to be a break in the filming making it difficult to know how far has been travelled during that time and if the aircraft has turned.

From the second or two you see it the aircraft looks to be at a couple of thousand feet so its anyones guess.
65 was i think the year i flew to Rimini on a BEA Viscount from Birmingham so might even have been on it.

Does this qualify as nostalgia? It seems like forever ago, even though it really wasn't.

I used to enjoy sitting in the bar at the top with the views of the runway.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
