Quite a bit. It's not so much the hill, it's the impact on the ILS glideslope and the fact that the CAA won't approve Cat 3 with the necessary 3.5 degree glideslope. I presume they have similar issues, or worse, at many airports surrounded by hills , mountains or tall buildings. In the UK , London City springs to mind.
Bristol only has Cat3b on its westerly runway (27). I'm told by those who know that the topography on the approach to the reciprocal easterly runway (09) might lead to false readings.

last December I was at the O2 arena in London, its quite a sight watching the turboprops and small jets descending over the big canary wharf towers, to the side of the O2 then disappear behind other buildings as they land.

I think the first one has to be a positive decision on the new terminal and work commences - surely with Cop out of the way and the integrated transport strategy being published the time has come for action?

Ok lets stir up a hornets nest -

A brand new "Greater Leeds International Airport" build between Whinmoor and Thorner
Lots of flat land to built a 10.000' runway, aligned East/West so not as much problem with crosswinds
CAT 3 ILS on both ends of runway, parallel taxiway and ground radar.
New state of the air terminal and tower
Parking stands for up to 50 aircraft
Aircraft enthusiasts viewing area with cafe with free parking
Large maintenance base for Jet2 and Fixed Based Operator with modern handling facilities and engineering/maintenance

Access road built out to M1, The orbital road connected from the West.
Railway station connected to the Leeds/York line near Crossgates with direct services to Manchester and Bradford via Leeds, also via York to all points North
Then we...................................

Sorry must finish now the nurse says its time to put my staritjacket beck on.

New terminal approval first and foremost, though when it would get built is another matter altogether.

The return of BA to Heathrow, any operator who fancies it to Islamabad, Turkish to Istanbul and someone, ANYONE to realise the potential here and base a few airframes for regular scheduled services around the UK, Ireland and .Europe.

That means our new recently recruited Aviation Development Director doing what she is there for. The wait for a new operator into LBA, or any new routes that are not either Jet2 or Ryanair has gone on long enough!

Oh, I would also like our excuse for an MP to just do one. He and his chums are wailing today about lack of investment in the railways impacting the economy of the city and region, yet they object to the terminal and do exactly the same themselves. Total hypocrites the lot of them!

Well here’s my list:

Remove GALBA from the spotlight and those that do anything to stop the airport succeeding.

More routes to places such as Germany

Some longhaul flights

A London link

The terminal to get approval

Jet2 to base an A330

Remove any MPS that hate LBA from office such as Sonel, Reeves, that Richard feller and the other ones against as they don’t have any interest in Leeds or Yorkshire

Ryanair to offer more routes and base the 3rd aircraft back ideally a 737-max

Eastern to be more reasonable with pricing

- Terminal approved
- BA to London route reinstated
- Emirates A350 / 787 (although likely 2023/24)
- Business routes to Europe.
- Routers to Turkey and Egypt

Nicola McMullan? wasn't she also an account manager at MAG? i think she looked after Singapore Airlines

Think that's her. She was certainly at MAN before coming here. I can't check the name as all LBA press releases after January 2021, including the one about her appointment, have been removed from the LBA website, which is rather odd frankly !

as many of them have already had a mention I will list these two.

New terminal approval

A new airline to start a completely new route from LBA

New long haul routes to Bradford Halifax and York
That’s about as far afield we will get with what’s going on in the world at the moment
New terminal will help

Surprised no one has mentioned easyjet yet! 2 or 3 aircraft based at lba operating to some of the guaranteed seat filler destinations but also some new destinations such as lisbon, iceland and athens.
And yes i will say it again, a new terminal!

Talk to Tracey about that. She surely will get ON BOARD and DRIVE that one forward not needing any further REQUESTS from anyone.
Not sure she would. She clearly doesn't want to be seen to be encouraging people to fly from their local airport. Heaven forbid!

Is it just me that thinks that already she seems to be just a puppet for the five anti airport Labour MPs who had the rug pulled from under their feet good and proper yesterday by BJ. They had all their eggs in the rail basket but BJ just cut the bottom out of that basket.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
