Birmingham: EasyJet Flights, New Routes & Base Updates

Use this prefix for new threads for Birmingham Airport
Hehe...that so called launch NEO, flew up from LGW, then promptly flew back down to LGW. Purely for promotional purposes.
Indeed it did, I'm fairly certain they did similar for another press/media event promoting the base a bit further on aswell, I might be mistaken but I think it was when the base came up to 3 aircraft?

The base started with three aircraft, now 5. I wonder if it will stay five for the winter 🤔

Yeah it launched as three, but I think it was staggered, first arrived on 18th March, second on 1st of April and then the third on 23rd of April, if my memory serves me right. It may have been when it was announced that it was being increased to five for this year that they sent a NEO for photos again. But I've slept since then, it's all a bit blurry!

Well if they can put NEO's in every other base, I cannot see any good reason why BHX is omitted. Probably never know the reason. One day hey 😀

With June set to be preparation month for winter.Where will easyjet add routes to for winter?
I think I have a rough idea of where easyjet will look at

You gonna get your dartboard out again Ant 😂.....joking aside I would be happy with CPH, HAM, ZRH, FNC and DJE from EasyJet. What are your thoughts Ant?

Some good choices, but why BSL over ZRH? ZRH is a world class affluent city with excellent private banking facilities and huge access to many ski areas in Switzerland and across into Austria too. No brainer for me.

Wouldn’t say Zurich is a popular route as it’s operated by Swiss 6 weekly this summer preferably by A321,320,220,E190 operations.

Basel I chose because it’s a route I don’t think has been served
It'll do Swiss good to have some competition on the ZRH run. The fares are eye watering in comparison to theirs or BA fares from LHR.

True tbf however easyjet is a airline that is low cost and Basel is a reasonable option.Zurich I understand your point however I can’t see it.

I went to Basle a couple of years ago, then by train to Zurich. It took about 1 hour and cost £20 approx.
Is this a cheaper way to get to Zurich?

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Madrid. The four airlines we had on the route a few years ago was a little excessive but I'd like some competition for Ryanair and if we can't get IBX back the I'll take easy 👍

Would like to see Athens added too.

Basle used to be served by Crossair with BAe RJ-100s, Saab 2000s, and ERJ145 for a few years around 2000

Swissair used to operate Zurich up to three times a day, years ago.
MD81 and Fokker F100 on the lunchtime service.
I do remember Basel for a while with Saab 2000 aircraft.
Not sure what happened exactly, apart from Swiss Air going bust. We can't blame brexit. Switzerland aren't in the EU.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
