Looks like Monarch Airlines owners Gray Bull Capital might be looking to sell the airline after turning it around from loss making to profit making 17 months ago.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business...er-said-to-be-considering-exit-after-just-17/

More interesting is the fact it could see the airline been sold to either Easyjet or Norwegian. Plus talk of of a merger with Air Berlin.
I've just been reading this on Manchester spotters Facebook page hope it's not true cos i don't think easy or Norwegian will pick up what we have at LBA hope im wrong

Norwegian are still expanding so there's no reason why Leeds couldn't continue to work for them. LBA has contributed to the airline's turnaround, so surely it makes sense to keep the base going?

Easyjet, they're still expanding? Do you think they might decide to take Jet2 on in their home territory?

I have to say, it would be a massive shame to see the Monarch brand disappear after so long.

User001 mentioned on a different airport thread that he thought Vueling could be a possible contender. It does make sense. BA aka AIG want to expand their lo-cost operation and they made a big commitment to the UK regions this summer spreading the brand name. Monarch have a sizable number of slots at Gatwick so it would enable the airline to gain a sizable presence at Gatwick airport. Other bases such as BHX, LBA and MAN would allow them to expand further into key areas.

I wonder if monarch will anounce any new routes with jet2 and Ryanairs announcements this week?

Jet2 brought there's out and then added more after what Ryanair did the other day didn't they? They could add couple flights on Wednesdays

It's somewhat annoying that Jet2 seemingly only bolster their offering after the other big two at LBA announce more flights. It just goes to show why the airline is growing more at places like Manchester where there is more competition.

Sorry that's just not true because to be fair to both Monarch and Jet2 there Winter 2016/17 programmes have been on sale for a few weeks, No actually months now!

Monarch winter's 2016/17 was initially 80% released for sale back in December 2015 with a big press release issued on the LBA website. It then decided to add Malaga as a winter route and had another a press release issued on March 10th 2016.

Jet2 as usual started very early to release there winter 2016/17 flights for sale with no press release as is normally case. Actually it was as far back as November 2015.
I Initially noticed the increase in flights and posted the info onto the forum on March 15th. I agree It was a shame that the was just no big press announcement like Ryanairs from Jet2 until yesterday.

Maybe Jet2 is missing a trick with the PR then. The Ryanair fanfare managed to get onto the regional news which is as good as an advertisement.

Any news on Monarch and their summer 2017 programme? I expect no change tbh and expect it to look similar to the current programme we have ... It's just very late this year. What with jet2 and thomsons programme now on sale.

There was an unusual departure for this afternoon's Dalaman flight out of LBA due to Thunderstorm activity directly in line with runway 32. The A320 took a sharp right turn after departure and climbed whilst banking over Otley, before heading back towards Leeds and back on to its usual flight-path heading to the South East. A sign of things to come in the future as this is the proposed departure route if/when departure and arrivals routings are changed.

I cant see Otley residents standing for departures routing directly over the town, after all the aircraft will be at low level on high power settings when taking off.

I guess if that is the routing adopted they will have no option. People in Leeds have stood for it for many years, as have the residents of Burley in Wharfedale and Menston. I don't think the new routings would be directly over Otley as they would probably have to pass through the existing gateway between Burley and Menston, and the only ones to turn right would be those heading East into Europe rather than West and down towards France and Spain. I suspect therefore that the routing would avoid the built up areas. Might never happen, but it does seem more logical than heading to the West when actually the flights want to head East. Such a routing would have relatively little impact on population compared the current routing to the West which is entirely over heavily populated areas.

I don't see how it would make a great deal of difference to the people of Otley. Aircraft are considerably quieter than when the flight paths were originally assigned.

As Otley is at the bottom of the chevin in the valley the aircraft departing on runway are already at 600ft even if they flew level after take off, so the noise is not likely to be too much of a problem as they will be around 1500 to 2000 feet by the time they reach Otley.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
