What a real shame. I feel for all it's employees and i really hope they all gain employment soon.

LBA management confirmed today at the Consultative Committee Meeting that for Summer 2018, Monarch are allocating an increased number of seats out of LBA to Thomas Cook, which presumably would assist in filling the aircraft. However, this is clearly all subject to the outcome of Monarch's review of how the airline operates and it is important to note that Monarch have made no official announcement as yet with regard to their plans. LBA are watching and waiting to see what happens like the rest of us but will be ready to do what is necessary to replace lost capacity should the worst happen.

It is a very selfish attitude however to quote above do we yet know how LBA will cover the loss of 2 aircraft and 720 seats per day/5040 a week.

Will be interesting to watch Thomas Cook Holidays next move, they were due to take alot of seats on Monarch flights next summer from Leeds.
Also as sad as it sounds, it frees up 2 stands at LBA. I wonder if Jet2 will snap them up like vultures??

I'd imagine in the short term TCX would send the passengers to Manchester but maybe for next year it could be possible for a based aircraft maybe an Avion Express one like at CWL. I'd imagine they'd have to redo a lot of their Summer 18 packages and not just at LBA.

I don't want to sound heartless it's an awful play of events however it's business and there will be a lot of airlines waiting to snap stands & slots up.

I'm just wondering what LBA are going to do as white heather said they are more or less ready to replace the capacity i'm just thinking who and what? Jet2 will of course be natural, Ryanair and TCX too?

Norwegian has been flagged a possible to pick up Monarch short haul operation, unfortunatley their financial state is as bad as Monarch's, so frying pan, fire come to mind.
Yes everyone will be after the carcus of the airline, gatwick slots should raise millions, the maintenance business should sell without an issue and Ryanair need 1400 pilots, so I imagine most of the operating staff will get jobs, leaving the head office staff as the real casulties

How many Monarch pilots will have a licence to fly B737? Not many I would imagine.

I am wondering who will be first in to grab the 2 stands that will now be available. Now would be great time for the likes of Flybe to come in with a 2 plane base to complement what Eastern are doing.

I think it would take 3 to 6 months to get them re rated. I'd imagine most would look to EZY TCX and BA for employment.

But Ryanair don't pay to train their pilots so they would probably want them to pay to re-rate themselves on to Boeings. Unlikely?

I can't see Monarch pilots heading anywhere near Ryanair not when you EZY, TCX, BA and Virgin all looking for pilots.

Deeply saddening day.

I have many friends who worked at Monarch, including people who recently got made redundant from KLM who went to Monarch - imagine how they feel right now.

No doubt the capacity will be filled in time - with the right business model that capacity could make money and I think we need to be mindful how we comment on that. Saying Jet2 will swoop like vultures? Leeds Bradford is a business, Jet2 is a business - all those passengers will be looking for an alternative carrier for next summer so it's somebody's for the taking.

LBA will want that capacity filling - that's for sure!

Shame the PLM215 isn't coming. From what I can see it is a WAMOS Air 747. So presumably a split loader and due to lack of space the pax will be bussed to Leeds instead of flying up.

The two (ex-) Monarch A320s are parked on remote stands, one behind the other and an airport bus behind them both, effectively blocking them in. I dare say this is a legal requirement from the lessons or another party with a financial interest in the aircraft. There are no steps or ground power units on either, just chocks. It's almost like they've been abandoned - a sorry sight.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
