Glad to see everything went smoothly, some great exposure for Monarch and LBA so pats on the back all round.

One question, as the plane was rolling I noticed a large crowd gathered on a hill behind the airfield with the road seeming like it was completely blocked. I've had a quick look on Google maps and from the angle it looks to be in the area of the cemetery, would that be about right or am I completely off?

How come its going from Leeds and not somewhere down south ?

Perhaps LBIA were one of the few airports that had no infrastructure development active that allowed the fairground ride and camera cherry picker to be erected?

No you are spot on. The runway was extended 600m back in the mid 80's. A new road goes around the end of the runway these days. What you saw was the old Cemetery Road that's used by spotters. It's probably about 150m to the side of the end of the runway and it offers excellent opportunities for viewing the aircraft when runway 14 is in use..

Yes Ray that's the cemetery. It's one of the best spotting locations at LBA, great access, nice unrestricted views, free and even gets an ice cream van parked on the summer weekends! :D

Well done to all at LBA for making it happen. :hatsoff:

Thanks for the reply. It definitely looks like there's some good views from there, I must try and make time for a visit.

Loved watching the plane take off last night! Be fantastic to make it a regular!
Could this be the last time a Monarch 757 visits LBA? (apart from the return flight)
I was wondering who has funded the Orlando trip?
Was it LBA? Monarch? or ITV? I guess Monarch and LBA have a good reason to fund it as it is prime time advertisement!

hi xboy999
why should this year be one of consolidation at LBA??
as regards new routes for monarch I would like to see Benidorm & Malaga A.S.A.P.from LBA.

Why even more flights to Malaga and Alicante "Snowman1"? As both routes are well served by Ryanair and Jet2 already.

If Monarch expand I would hope they would look at some new destinations instead like Gibraltar, Almeria, Marrekesh and maybe Sharm el Sheikh. Thats if the shark-let fitted A320's have the range to do it from Leeds.

Interestingly, I am flying to GIB with Monarch later this year from Manchester. Despite that, I do not understand what the clamour is for a route to GIB from LBA. Whatever has been tried at GIB to improve connections and grow passenger numbers in the past has not worked. There simply isn't enough demand. As much as I get frustrated with destination choice at LBA, GIB is not a goer, as far as I am concerned.

hi lba spotter
re Benidorm & Malaga
those 2 routes would fill a a320 no problem ex LBA Thomas cooks pax for both destinations have to go to man as do cosmos pax and that is a lot of local people we are losing to man.we are flying to Almeria on june 19 ex man with Thomson and there is only 1 flight per week.

See in todays daily mail Monarch are to ban reclining seats on short duration flights. About time too Ryanair scrapped over 10 years ago.
Have to say I go into orbit if someone reclines the seat in my face, should be banned on all aircraft apart from night time long distance flights.
Now supposed to be the number one issue related to air rage, not surprised.

100% correct Tarn Spotter as long as they don't use it as an excuse (or whatever) to introduce those uber uncomfortable Acro seats that Jet2 have. They were reported, on here I think, that they were to start fitting some form of slimline seat to their fleet - even the new ones - albeit something more comfortable than the Jet2 variety. Anyone get any idea what and when?

airforced: Report said new style of seat with tablet holder, childrens toy holder, drinks holder etc.
Have to say I have no problem with the jet2 seats, sat in one for 9 hours last year and walked off without an issue or any aches, which at 70 this year is something I often suffer from.
Was on Ryanair for only an hour last week malaga to Ibiza, first time with the airline for 10 years, seats so crammed and uncomfortable was glad to get off had difficulty lifting myself out the seat. Returned malaga/leeds via jet2, you have so much more room on Jet2.
have to say Ryanair banning half the passengers bringing on board their cabin luggage, made it a joy to get on last and find space above my seat for my cabin luggage.

We are the same age Tarn Spotter but are obviously upholstered differently!

Interestingly (or not as the case may be) I've flown both Ryan and Jet2 so far this year on 2 hour or so flights and I had no problem with the Irish seats or config but those Jet2 seats and their non existent arm rests really crease me up. My wife hasn't got a problem with them though.

On the other hand the Monarch seats, in the new aircraft based at LBA, were great for me last year when we went to Crete with them. I'm trying Tommo to Corfu in September so it will be interesting to see how their seats/config attack me. I did chose extra legroom though.

hi airforced
I have the same problem with the jet2 seats as you, by the time we get to Malaga I am suffering from num bum.re Thompson I think you did right booking extra leg room seats on your flight,i find the leather seats ok but the standard leg room poor,we have done 5 flights with them ex Doncaster so I am speaking from experience.

Hi, does anyone know when Monarch are likely to release their Summer 2015 schedules for booking please? I have just booked a holiday in Tenerife in June 2015 and can book with Jet2, but there is nothing beyond March 15 available yet from Monarch. I know Jet2 are usually one of the quickest off the mark to release seats for sale, and will probably use them anyway, but I just wanted to compare ticket prices.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
