BA don't really release flights like FR. They open all flights at 355 days out so everything is available at that stage to book.

It is completely gone even checking up to May 2021. I haven't ever seen BA pull all flights on a route only to put them back on before. I suppose there is some vague possibility it may come back from next Summer onwards, but i am not holding my breath.

I would imagine that BA will be watching to see if the new terminal gets the go ahead. If so they may keep a token presence until the new terminal is completed. If the application is turned down I think they will end the flights.

Why would they be bothered by a new terminal? I doubt that is important to them.

I am afraid not. They have suspended the route completely now and there will be no presence at LBA.

When BA return to full capacity around 2022/3, having the new terminal may help tempt them back, so I guess there may be some hope there.

This is a major blow to the airports credibility. Maybe it did struggle commercially. Clearly slots at Heathrow aren't a factor for the foreseeable future. Sadly if BA cant make it pay then none can.

the loads were about 75% over the last two years. Obviously yield is not something I can see so its difficult to assess profitability.

It doesn't surprise me, though I am sad once again. LBA has done that to me too often. The fact is that if passenger figures in the route were marginal before and we got just 10 flights per week when people were free to travel worldwide unrestricted, they can only go down with worldwide travel likely to be severely hit for the forseeable future. I expected this as soon as BA announced all those job losses. The most marginal routes were bound to go first and once again LBA was in that category.

The only positive is that it will make it easier for KLM to build up AMS again quickly and hopefully Aer Lingus to do similar on DUB, though I fear for that too until flights to the US pick up again. Perhaps the reduction to one a day by Ryanair on the route will encourage them to keep going but it's hard to see it returning to previous levels this year.

No official confirmation from the airport yet? They must be absolutely gutted. I always think having the flag carrier operating into any airport is significant as is gives the airport credibility and mark's it out from the rest.

I've travelled a lot to the US with BA from LBA so I'm really gutted. KLM were always over priced for me and I didnt want to fly east first to then go west and Aer Lingus arent that cheap either ( and no complimentary bar ). I really am sad about this.

I doubt anyone running a UK airport or airline is expecting things to return to pre-Covid levels anytime soon, perhaps not even for years. Is this news really that shocking or surprising in the circumstances? I doubt LBA will be the only airport seeing major service cutbacks and route cancellations in the coming weeks and months.

BA. No real surprise, they are in a fight for survival and can only have routes which will guarantee a healthy profit hence cut backs everywhere. Expect bad news in the aviation industry for a long time to come. Look at Lufthansa. They appear to have ejected a bailout of 8billion euros. Yes 8 billion!!! Do you remember Air France being given 1 billion then another billion. These were enormous sums then and yet here we are again Air France needs billions. Who pays for all this massive expenditure? And what if a second wave of the virus ---oh lets not go there!!
LBA, if it gets its new terminal will be a different place altogether in 5 years time, if it doesn 't get it what then. Will the likes of Jet2 want to operate out of a terminal described now as unfit for purpose? New airlines will simply not come, just as now. In my opinion, no expert, if LCC reject the application the long term future of LBA is bleak!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
