I did tell you this was going to happen some weeks ago !
Manchester is sucking us to death and we have no way of fighting them and the new owners of Lba are unable to see the battle is lost.

Interestingly, not all the dropped routes are operated from MAN.
There are no flights to Vilnus (VNO) from MAN, however Wizz Air operates 2x weekly from DSA and Ryanair operates 2x weekly from LPL.
Having said that, RYR operates all the other dropped routes from MAN throughout the Winter alongside easyJet, Jet2 and the other charter operators.

That's just not a good enough excuse. Leeds is a massive city and a massive financial hub if the routes become available with good frequencies pax would begin to choose LBA. Look at the AMS route 3x daily with KLM and very reliable, 252,180 travelled LBA-AMS (not excluding Jet2's offering) and have done for years because the route is reliable and established. However we don't have any other good connections apart from Dublin with Aer Lingus. Paris is a massive issue the same with Brussels and Frankfurt so on. The airport needs to not worry about holiday pax at the moment as they make up the majority of the passenger numbers. A real effort needs to be made to bring business pax into the airport as many would choose LBA if the frequencies were there but 4 flights to Paris a week suits no business man/woman. We know as a fact they would as many complain about the lack of flights.I know I have moaned about this issue lot's but I will until it's addressed.

However on another note this is a massive hit for LBA and the rest of the UK. However the warnings were there when we chose the leave the EU. The saddest part is I was routing for a Ryanair expansion as they have such a large route portfolio which LBA craves. Jet2 will now just gain more and more monopoly at the airport (which is already at an all time high). All I can say now is some orange would be great to save us and brighten up the place...

Ryanairs issue is not leaving the EU it is the 737MAX deliveries, they just don't have the aircraft with older 738's leases coming to an end, and closing bases is a direct result.
With regard easyjet can BHX have its base first please ?

The airline industry has become so much less trustworthy and unsteady because of Brexit which has prevented expansion from many airlines until the issue is resolved. On the EZY subject it’s a free for all now .

Sadly will remain this way due to the uncertainty. If only the MP's had voted for May's deal back in March. Or may had decided right from the offset to have cross party talks. Imagine.

As for Ryanair - as pointed out the wider issue is the late delivery of MAX's (if they get delivered at all) and leases coming to and end.

As I recall, only a few years ago, Ryanair were operating only 2 based aircraft at LBA during the winter, and went back to 3 again in the summer. Lets hope that is the case this time but it will, I am sure, be dependent upon Boeing sorting out the 737 MAX (or whatever Ryanair end up calling it) and getting them out to airlines. We shouldn't forget that this is not a situation unique to LBA - other airports will suffer too, not least those that are currently much bigger bases for Ryanair, and which are closing completely. At least we still have a base and as long as we do, then the door is open for future expansion or at least restoration of what we have now.

So what’s next !
Smaller aircraft and less frequency on routes next summer by Jet 2 and if so who would Ickes up the slack ?
My dream is over and reality has set in sadly !
I hope Jet 2 don’t decide Manchester is the logical main base and follow the trends of the past leaving us with even less than we have.

LBA has had 3x based aircraft summer and winter since (at least) 2016. This is the first time since then that the base has dropped to 2x based aircraft.
Regarding other UK bases, the number of based aircraft (required to fly the schedule) are as follows for this coming winter season:

STN - too many to count
MAN - 11x based (+3 vs W18/19)
EDI - 7x based (same as W18/19)
LTN - 6x based (same as W18/19)
EMA - 4x based (same as W18/19)
BRS - 4x based (same as W18/19)
LPL - 3x based (same as W18/19)
BHX - 3x based (same as W18/19)
SEN - 2x based (NEW BASE)
LBA - 2x based (-1 vs W18/19)
BOH - 1x based (same as W18/19)
PIK - 1x based (same as W18/19)
BFS - BASE CLOSED (-2 vs W18/19)

Apart from the BFS base which closes this winter, LBA is the only UK base that sees a decrease in the number of based aircraft vs last year.

When times are hard and there is a lack of aircraft you would naturally take an aircraft away from a base that has a poor infrastructure such as its terminal and of course a challenging runway during the winter months where costly delays and diverts can occur. I will say it again, its staring us in the face, but until something big style is done reg LBAs infrastructure it will only get worse. Ryanair, tui, tcx etc

If they do a300boy I for one won't be following them over there. I'd just have to find another airport or carrier. Much as we complain about LBA it is much, much better than Manchester.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
