I have written to LBA asking what is going on and asking for a statement to clarify. The silence from both Ryanair and now LBA is deafening. I cannot help but think that there is more to this than meets the eye.

But as I said previously, they are operating to Luton and Newcastle, both owned or part owned by AMP. You would think that they would all have a common approach or policy on fees. MOL usually wastes no time in letting everyone know that he has shown an airport the door, but this time there is silence. Most un-Ryanair like.

WH. The one thing you can be sure about with MOL is that he can be unpredictable. This may ne an example of that. Also by not making a song and dance about it, leaves him an open door to return without getting much egg on his face.

It really is a strange one this, LBA has lost its 2nd biggest operator and total silence from both parties! you never know we might all be thinking negative and something positive might be in the plans? (dreaming )

i think from a business point of view (cost cutting and saving money etc) it absolutely makes sense for FR to shut x1 base AC at LBA, as disheartening as it is.. what i do not understand is why they would remove the none based AC schedules.. like fight2win says, maybe there is more to this then meets the eye.

Just when we think it can't get any worse! I wont mention the precarious position BA are in at the moment.

So does that make KLM the second biggest carrier at LBA and how depressing the Wednesday departure board will look this winter without Ryanair and FlyBe propping it up.

Some positive route news would be more than welcome - fingers crossed.

I was only thinking earlier that in winter, with Jet2 in hibernation midweek, no Ryanair and no Flybe, LBA might as well not be there much of the time. I would think the BA flights are at risk if International traffic no longer warrants such a service, and due to all their job cuts, and the same reductions in traffic will impact KLM and Aer Lingus Regional too as far as interlining passengers are concerned at least through next winter.

It isn't difficult to imagine LBA now having to almost start over building up a new route network through the attraction of new airlines, and we all know what is needed now to have any real chance of doing that.

Over to you Leeds City Council.

It's as well the pubs are shut as all this makes me so fed up I feel like a long session at a bar.

At least the environmentalists cannot have a good moan about airport expansion. For all we know, Ryanair might not even survive this crisis themselves...and then Manny would be stuffed as well. I think a lot of regional airports are going to take a significant amount of time to get back to 2019 levels, assuming they ever do. This could take us right back to pre-Jet2 passenger numbers.

This is not just a LBA problem, every airport inc MAN will suffer big style due to covid-19, many airports this winter will more or less shut down. Just before covid-19 arrived MAN lost its biggest airline with the largest % of flights with flybe going under, although because we are talking MAN some routes have been covered with other airlines since. Airlines will cut frequency at all uk airports but the likes of aer lingus, klm and BA will still be with us because in the future once international traffic picks up those flights still need to be there to feed passengers onto int flights.
More than ever though and I believe it will be our survival we do need to get the new terminal approved, AMP mean business, once built with all the other improvements in the plans im sure we will have exciting times ahead!

I have to agree, fight2win the new terminal is absolutely vital to the survival of LBA and it seems that LCC could not possibly reject the application. The economy of Yorkshire depends on good connectivity for the business community and tourism therefore a shining new modern gateway to the region sends out a positive message to everyone, far and near. Sadly though I think the aviation industry is going to have a very tough 5 years ahead. The levels of passenger throughput etc seen up the start of this year will take years to recover! The world itself is entering a severe and largely unknown recession, even depression. Money will be tight with airlines, airports, suppliers and so on repaying huge debts and so expansion plans will be hold, cut backs will be the order of the day. Governments and business too will be trying to recover and again money will not be there. State aid eg Air France will rancour the likes of BA, Virgin, Delta etc whilst many independent smaller airlines will really be up against it. Unemployment too will restrict opportunities for continental holidays. Communicating by Zoom and Skype etc will mean less demand for travel by air. The environmentalists will have their say.
Against this bleak outlook I am greatly encouraged that AMP have stated their desire to press on with the new terminal and hopefully when it is up and running along with the LBA Parkway this will all be in place for the 'new' aviation world, which will be very different from the one we see disappearing right now. Come on Leeds City Council -lets see this done and dusted - you owe it to the good people of Yorkshire.

From what im seeing now its simply a case of "LCC you need to give the go ahead to the AMP plans or leeds has no airport, simple as!"
If approved strangely its the best possible time it could of happened, just in time for when aviation picks up again, we will have one of the best terminals in the uk with our 4th largest populated area, and of course once built the media will advertise it to the mass public

Make of that what you will. At least it perhaps explains the absence of any confirmation from Ryanair or LBA, as it seems there is nothing yet to confirm either way. Where there's hope,.........

I can only ask the airport and these are people who meet with us at Consultative meetings. They have yet to be shown to be untruthful but we all have to remember also that there are things they cannot tell us at particular times for Commercial reasons. My post simply relays what I have been told. The fact discussions are ongoing means only that there is a hope. If there wasn't there would be no discussions.

As for the comments of Jet3, I can do without the sarcasm which is remarkably similar to comments made last year over the Massive News, which clearly at that time was still in confidence. Even if Jet3 is correct and Ryanair are gone, (which no doubt will delight him), I find the underlying sarcasm towards LBA management and myself unnecessary and distasteful. It will be very easy for me to stop relaying information in the future as frankly, I can do without it.
