Some won't mind the distance at all. Those for example who think that MAN is suitable to serve the Leeds and West/North Yorkshire area. Similar distance. It’s like flying into Blackpool but saying it’s Leeds!
I think you are very right there Len..RYR have kept a close eye on what they are doing...Removing the 757`s, from LBA, reduces capacity and employing 733`s on some routes like Malaga/Alicante has a similar effect. They will have crunched the numbers, examined the trends and decided there is money to be made from seat only. At this rate I think the 3 aircraft may be available all next winter as well.Surely it can’t be a coincidence that as Jet2 concentrate on the package side rather than seat only that Ryanair take the opportunity to fill the gap?

Theres a regulat train from CDG to Paris.I used BVA about 4 years ago. Really easy to get into central Paris with the airport coach service they operate to Porte Maillot. Took about an hour. I’m pretty sure CDG still doesn’t have a direct train/metro into central Paris. I used to use the Air France Autobus from CDG to Etoile(Arch de Triomphe) again taking about an hour.
But if the flights cost peanuts compared to Jet2, and people are staying a few days, then an hour's trip from airport to Paris is no big deal. The alternative is an hour's journey to go to MAN (on a good day).I went to BVA back in 1994 and it took and hour back then so not much has improved. CDG has the RER direct to central Paris. Station close to T3.
It was the Ryanair guy called McGuinness who was interviewed and he said that LBA had done a great job securing the 3rd aircraft and additional routes against considerable competition from competing airports. Is it really down to LBAs efforts? Im not saying it isnt but I think Ryanair just see an opportunity and go for it. Ryanair have just announced they are moving from 5 to 10 based aircraft at EDI as an example (5 of which will be max's)
I think the Ryanair expansion is a real positive and will definitely contribute to the rebound in the airport’s passenger numbers. I do feel though that they are still a little on the conservative side where LBA is concerned. Zadar is a break from the more run of the mill routes and I hope this will lead to other less mainstream flights in the future. For potential markets, Germany is a real gap for LBA, as well as potential for Scandinavia and perhaps Romania for EU people residing in Yorkshire.
