I hope Wizz can hold their own against FR. and increase like that is a good sign of sales. Rather FR opened OTP when Wizz was at DSA. Wizz do seem to be adding frequencies when they can. I hope expansion from Wizz / something new is on the horizon also.

Yes I think generally it would be good to see some new routes from anyone but especially Wizz and Ryanair. Don't get me wrong FR are now at LBA in a big way and competition is healthy, but FR do seem to like jumping on routes already served. That said RAK, OPO, PGF and BVA are relatively new I think. May have missed a couple of others

It's a sign of Ryanair's growth here that on Saturday afternoons this summer, we have seen as many as 6 of their aircraft on the ground together, and even after they have departed, there's another run of arrivals later. Maybe 4 more from memory including the Lauda from Zadar.

I've certainly never seen so many Ryanair aircraft in within a short time. The problem is that as they always park fairly close to the terminal it's causing the usual issues with stands. Nothing major yet, but we've seen them holding for up to 10 minutes in the loop due to other aircraft on approach coupled with all stands occupied and specifically to allow aircraft on those stands to push back and taxi off the apron. Not only is it a lack of stands that causes the issue, it's how narrow the apron area is. Anything pushing back and everything that's just arrived tends to have to stop and wait.

The sooner those extra stands are built, the better as it will take the pressure off those stands closest to the terminal, which are seemingly in high demand.

So how does the allocation of stands work. First come first served or is there some pre-arranged agreement with the airlines as to which they will use?
You'd have to ask someone from Jet2 ground handling or Swissport.

KLM usually grab stand 8 (air bridge). Ryanair seem to generally be parked between stand 9 and 13 somewhere as do Wizz (although they are mainly here when most others aren't). easyJet are also usually in the vicinity of the terminal and Jet2 seem to take whatever happens to be available - including remote stands at the Eastern end if there's nothing else and if buses are available for passengers

I'm sure there's method in it all but those are just my observations from watching the comings and goings on a Saturday afternoon from the comfort of my sofa - courtesy of Blue Sky Aviations excellent live stream.

The stand allocation is the responsibility of the Airside Operations Unit and is an ongoing process throughout the day, with last minute stand changes not unknown!

BTW, the airbridge on stand 8 conked out a few years ago, not long after it's overhaul, and it hasn't worked since. The bridge on stand 7 still functions; KLM usually park there overnight and on most rotations during the day.

I was watching Blue Sky Live Aviation Saturday afternoon and I think Nick on there picked up on that nothing was using the eastern apron area around stands 21 end, I be interested to no why this was

They are remote stands they don’t use them because you need to bus the passengers over there which is a nightmare to do. They only get used when aircraft are coming in for the night as there isn’t enough space to park all the aircraft on the main
stands

As for stands I believe they get allocated based on what time the aircraft is going out and also gates inside the terminal by AOU as mentioned. the jetbridge stand gets used mainly by Jet2 and KLM through the day and KLM nightstopper uses it. Ryanair never use the bridge as they don’t pay for it plus they have their own steps built into their planes.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
