It has been noted that Turkish Airlines seems to be doing well on the routes it currently serves from the UK. Interestingly there was something on BBC news earlier today regarding huge expansion at Istanbul's airport with a third runway planned.

I'm pretty sure it's not just a 3rd runway which incidentally IST already has. A new super airport is to be built with 6-8 runways, huge new terminals and all specially designed for Turkish airlines massive future growth! I bet Willy Walsh and BA are so envious of a decent forward thinking government!

TK1967/1968 will become a 737-900 from the summer.

Subject to change of course as they could be swapped to an A321 or back to a 738 when necessary, as they do now.

The 737-900 actually marks a downgrade in capacity - only 151 seats as apposed to 165 on the 737-800. But the 900's have more business class seats so I guess it all depends on how you look at things.

I've flown on the 900ER out of BHX - it's certainly better than the 800 for a number of reasons. ;)

I think Turkish are doing well at BHX. Question is, where do they go now? They are currently at twice daily, I believe?

THY are currently still @ 10 flights a week, double flights on MON,THU and SUN.
The rumoured double daily announcement never happened.(no surprise there).
I believe it will happen as the flights have proved to be very popular,it is just a question of when.
It seems to me that when airlines have success @ MAN and then try BHX they get similar success, unfortunately they seem to be reluctant to expand @ BHX to the degree they do @MAN.
What would be interesting is if an airline actually tried BHX before trying MAN.I wonder if they might actually be surprised by the response from customers.

As said above currently 10 weekly with slots for double daily held. If they follow expansion at other airports they'll be double daily with a 738/9, the next step most likely a double daily A321 (which MAN has just gone to) then most likely either A330 or 3x daily.

That's quite my thinking too. I don't really expect an airline to try BHX before MAN. The only airline I can think of that's done that is Hellenic? Yeah, nothing major.

So they've got the slots for double daily. It's just a case of when.

Air India comes to mind straight away.

Air India actually used to operate at MAN in the 90s. But this'd be better off in the AI thread as opposed to this I think.

Looking at some of the seat plans there are lots of upgrades to A321's towards the end of December with the 19th December showing as an A330-300. It's one to keep an eye on as more upgrades may happen over the next couple of weeks.

Also the 21st too; are these the days when there is just the one flight? I'd like to think we could see TK go double daily next year. Be interesting to know which routes these A330s are being displaced from.

No A330 routes will be displaced per-se. There are quite a few short haul routes that Turkish use the A330/A340/B777 fleet on, that will just be an A321 for the days BHX/MAN see the A330.

With such a diverse fleet, Turkish are the masters at 'right aircraft at the right time'.

21st December now back to A321 for BHX.

The 21st is showing as a 737-900 in the morning and an A321 in the afternoon. Hoping for double daily next year too :)

Yes,excellent news.
I have always said that if an airline was prepared to work for it they will get the benefits of flying from BHX.Timings, fares and onward connections have all helped TK make this service so successful.Surely it is only a matter of time before it goes double daily, every day. :drinks:

I think their huge advertising campaign definitely paid off, the loads were abysmal for the first few months and many thought it wouldn't last but in the last 18 months or so they've gone from strength to strength. Lets hope for more next year and a similar advertising campaign from AA.

The wish for double daily flights has come half true.

From 23rd June, TK increase to 12 weekly, with double daily on Mon/Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun.

B737 operates all flights.

Good to see an increase from TK, but if im being honest its a bit irritating they could not of gone upto 14 weekly, however it is better than nothing.

Ray is not going to be happy though, i get a sense he is not a happy bunny today.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
