Ant, if you check out this link, and click on "Here is a map of the area that the byelaws apply to", you can see the areas of land around the airport that is covered by their bylaws, which I believe covers the location of the mound.

https://www.birminghamairport.co.uk/about-us/birmingham-airport-byelaws

The issue with any video streamers on Birmingham's land is that no one (or company) can make any money from a video stream or any other venture that involves money, without BHX's permission. The people you saw on the mound, I presume were taking photos/videos for their own purposes only.

I would imaging they would eventually be moved on by the airport police for being on BHX's land if they had been there for a while. I'm sure the airport police have more pressing issues to deal with day in day out, so won't go charging across to the mound to kick off the odd spotter straight away
very helpful Matt.Thanks mate

BHX do themselves no good by creating problems that do not materially affect the operation of an airport, such as security. Causing "Harrassment or distress" to simple hobbyists, which in itself is a criminal offence I should add, is not merely moving on people that may cause concern to officials in the tower but can be seen as a jobsworth that is too intimate with the byelaws. It seems that the mound has beneath some high voltage cables feeding the landing approach lights and this is why Airport action were advised to vacate the area.

I feel that the Airport company is a confused soul in need of spiritual help, or is simply a vindictive entity that struggles with its own identity. My own personal view given my previous ambivalence towards BHX.

no it wasn’t airport action. It was someone else.I actually feel for airport action that they can’t stream from the mound. This is why it’s one rule for them and another for someone else.At the moment it’s for the public to use. It’s not airport property until I see signs or notices from the airport it’s self.
Hi, Are you talking of the mound end of 33 other side of the A45 where the aporoach lights are ?

If so , last time I was walking on the allowed public footpath past, 3 weeks ago there were clear signs saying no entry and its fenced and gated off.
I took all that to mean as jo public, I couldn't go in ??

I took this from Goole maps -

It quite clearly shows a public footpath and even indicates a viewing area. The difference with Airport Action, is that they are effectively a business. I can understand why the Airport would not want a business operating from it's property without permission, no matter how nice the Airport Action crew are.

That map of the byelaws suggests to me that its only the bit within the fenceline and which im not surprised they arent happy about. But the footpath is, presumably, outside that - its a public right of way after all. It would only be an issue if they were blocking the PRoW?

Even that said, the southwest side of that blob, about where that green building is, has a great view of everything (doesn't it?) and is definitely not covered (according to the map). As does, from memory, much of the route of the footpath back along the A45. I doubt they could stop you putting a ladder up along there.

There have been some nice hills created by National Highways. They will presumably become accessible again once the works finish. I'd imagine some of those, again on public rights of way, will have a great view.

National Highways, in cahoots with airport authorities, will probably do their level best to make the entire area inaccessible to Joe public given how attractive it may become to the spotting community.

Instead of learning from other airports in Europe that have managed to offer safe viewing facilities, BHX are being typically British, making difficulties where non exist, i.e the near total absence of warning signage, send police patrols around the perimeter [fenced or not], the car parks under surveillance, I await the time when they expand onto Sheldon park off R15 and close that area off with an addition to the local byelaws.

Hi .Good evening.

At the moment I’m not working. That’s the reason I’m always on here.
Now my question is this.
How do you lot sort flight frequencies for different airlines that operate BHX?

Really intrigued

What I wanted to do was compare Tui’s frequency for this summer and next summer if you understand?

Ant, best way to check the TUI schedule:- https://www.tui.co.uk/flight/timetable & google flights

remember summer 2024 will change quite a bit between now and then, they always change aircraft types, flight times, and routes, even as late as April!!! FYI - i have a provisional TUI timetable for summer 24, August only, in excel format, some of which i have already posted in the TUI thread

Yeah got the drift of it now .For example Boa Vista 2>3 weekly next summer

Interesting poor communication from the airport.

2 easyjet were ready to depart 33 while Ryanair was ready to depart for Lanzarote on R15 which got told to depart R33 a few minutes later.Even though winds are north east

It’s a bit of a toss up for that time in the morning today, winds more or less 90 degrees to the runway. Pretty much all crosswind.

Its not unheard of in a situation with a crosswind in the past at least for a captain to request take off in the opposite end to which the airport is operating from to enable the aircraft a more efficient departure for the route to be flown.

I don't know if that was the situation in this case but its up to ATC to allow or not. I imagine these days permission is unlikely certainly at busy airports but assume the crew can still ask so maybe that is what actually happened in this case and permission refused.

Ant why do you say poor communication were you listening in to the tower? would be interesting know the conversation

Strike called off. From the BBC yesterday. Glad the staff got a deal that was acceptable to them. A strike when the airport is trying to rebuild confidence and routes would have been very damaging, but so many people are being hit hard by the disaster of [no politics allowed] that I fully understand the need to take a very hard line.

Well done to them and the management teams.

Can you imagine United* on a visit to negotiate a deal only to find the place shut?

*The first airline I thought of. Equally could have said BOAC!

Widely reported in the media that Unite have called an indefinite strike by refulers employed by Menzies from August 15th after rejecting a 9% pay offer. Unite are claiming it will cause huge delays and cancellations.

A BHX spokesman said that the airport has several other third party suppliers on site and no cancellations are anticipated, meanwhile Menzies Aviation are putting in contingency measures whatever that means.

Negotiations are apparently ongoing.

Ah good old Unite if it is anything like the NXWM bus Strikes then were in trouble. The first pay offer NXWM offered was widely rejected the the 2nd was accepted by a lot more the 3rd one most Drivers were willing to accept and I believe Unite said yes this was when them the strike got called off but then an argument broke out and Unite said say no. The argument I believe was over Ballotino NX wanted it Private as a ballot should be Unite wanted it in the Staff room. So then the Strike happened NX threw down there 4th offer which of course was accepted. And NX said we will aim to run more services by the middle of week the only buses that ran near to me was the 529 and in Walsall the 51 and in Wolverhampton the 59 and 529 Darlaston didn't have a bus network well it did but 2 routes one every hour by Diamond from Willenhall where you could get the 529 to Wednesbury for the Tram I guess that ran from 7 til 5 and the 65 From Darlaston to Woods Estate in Friar Park I don't know the Purpose of it that runs from 10 till 3. Anyway the first day I looked in the Express and Star at the picket line outside of Wolverhampton Garage whose buses I got to college and I recognised most of the drivers some drove the routes or had and were regulars others Were new to the routes but I had the week before on the 79 and 1 or 10. Anyway the first two days most Drivers joined in the strike the first day had more numbers by The third day most Drivers decided stuff this and quit the Union or attempted to drive only to be blocked by Union reps as they tried to leave the Depot this coming from colleagues my Mates dad knew he wasn't on Strike. Or many of them had no work so Couldnt work so decided to help train new bus drivers. I believe at one point Darlaston was going to get a bus back in the 39 which serves the hospital and then of an evening when the 39 stopped would become a 34 or 37 or the 39 would be every hour and a 34 which was going to be Double Decker or the 37 from Willenhall was going to be timed to meet it in Darlaston so every half hour service but the idea was you could get to the Manor Hospital, Walsall for Trains to Birmingham or Wolverhampton Willenhall for the bus to Wolverhampton and Bilston for the Tram and there was possibly going to be 2 more buses added to the 51 to make it every 15 minutes down from every 5 or 6 the buses to Darlaston are usually every 6 minutes from Walsall. But Unite said no in the end NX agreed to do what they wanted. Unite threatened if NXWM didn't do what they promised more strikes most Drivers knew it was BS as NX couldn't do much to stop them getting attacked by Kids on the Blakenall Estate in Walsall they have Panic Alarms and the Door Guards and other functions I think spit kits were starting to be rolled out and there is Decent CCTV on most of the fleet. My point is Unite like to disrupt things this Strike which was called of like the Bus Strike could have been because it was decent but then Birmingham either had a disagreement or Unite were being awkward. The same drivers who told me this said to me a couple of weeks ago if it was down to Unite they still would be on Strike now it was Drivers getting angry and many leaving that caused them to stop. So will be interesting to see what happens here

Good grief Darlo I just posted a couple of short paragraphs about potential problems at BHX due to refueling issues because of possible industrial action and get a missive about buses pooding around none of which would have the slightest effect on BHX or any other airports.

Think you've claimed the record for thread drift 🤔

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
