I still have a copy of the edition titled 'Booming Birmingham'. Sadly, a few of the airlines covered no longer serve BHX.

Me to Kevin, with the EK A380 on the front cover, and an interview with Paul Kehoe!! - it was "airports of the world", May/June 2016 edition, wow where has the time gone, seems like yesterday!!

New to Birmingham then were:-

American Airliines to New York JFK
Blue Air to Bucharest
Czech Airlines to Prague
Hainan Airlines to Beijing
Iberia Express to Madrid
Icelandair to Kefalvik
Norwegian Air Shuttle to Barcelona, Las Palmas, Madrid, Malaga, Tenerife
Qatar to Doha
VLM Airlines to Antwerp, Waterford
Vueling Airlines to Alicante, Barcelona, Tenerife
Wizz Air to Bucharest, Budapest, Poznan, Sofia, Warsaw, Wroclaw

I make it just 6 are currently left now, Qatar to Doha, Vueling to Barcelona, Wizz Air to Bucharest, Budapest, Warsaw, Wroclaw

Yeah but VLM, what a joke they were. Using the Fokker 50, Looooooooooooooooooooooool

That would be something, but it would have to be drive on reverse off as the C-17's nose doesn't open.

That's exactly what happened with the Silver City Bristol 170's from BHX to I think Ostend, younger members can look it up. The Carvair (Aer Lingus)was similar but you needed a scissor type lift to load it and only carried regular freight from BHX as far as I remember to Dublin.

Strange looking beasts the both of them.

Silver City definitely operated the B170 Bristol freighter from Birmingham in the late 50's or early 60's. There main operating base was Lydd to Le Touquet competing with the cross channel ferries. There is a photograph on Elmdon Over the Years by Roger Chapmen and Roy Kesterton showing one with a BEA Viscount in the background. You can find it on Ian's blog, There is also a good airline history on Wikipedia.

Aer Lingus Carvairs operated for several years from BHX to Dublin and if I recall correctly at times via Bristol for some reason.

Don't know about BAF at BHX

At the risk of being off beam in this thread, I remember building a Airfix Bristol freighter and was not a bit happy about it since my brother had a VC-10. He being the boy of the house, he got the best and I got it if it was pink or soft grrrrrr! How interesting life turns out. He got manual work in the bowels of big buildings, I end up with , well, it is documented on this site.

I remember the aer lingus carvair used for freight & remember ‘hundreds’ of lawn mowers being loaded
BAF Bristol 170 used to operate from Cov

I haven’t lived in the UK for many years, but looking at the videos , it shouldn’t be hard to work out the location using Google Earth should it .

Gran Canaria with Jet2 in the Feb half term, - £633 from EMA or - £597 from MAN

Can't even look at a self assembly holiday as Ryanair only do once a week on a Friday.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
