Yes apparently I have read, that 50k people have signed a petition, to have the airport renamed in his honor. Me personally, I think that it would be a great idea. It may even help Birmingham airport to increase its own growth strategy and help to increase passenger numbers further. All the other airports around the world that are named after well known persons, hasn't done them any harm at all. But may have raised profiles much higher

Hi there all, where the original viewing gallery was, when you looked out the the right side of the window, there a very tall black tower, about 30-40 foot high, with, what looked like a huge hexagonal glass box on top of it. The year was 1987, any ideas at all.

My recollection is that It was I belive originally for monitoring ground movements but unfortunately you couldn't see the end of runway 15 so it was useless and it ended up being used for storage.

It did have a flagpole on top which served as a lightning conductor, that's todays bit of useless information for everyone.

Hi there all, I don't think that any art work that relates to Ozzy Osbourne, would be acceptable to many people, apart from an exhibition currently on in Birminghams museum and art gallery, that is where any form of artwork should be. I personally think that the airport may have scored an own goal, and a negative pr stunt. How many other airports around the world are named after famous people, Atlanta, Liverpool, Ireland. It hasn't done any harm to those airports has it, has it affected any of their passenger numbers of demand from the airport, I doubt it, more like probably increased the airports presence globally. Let's hope that tens of thousands of signatures change their mind, or there decision could cost the airport in business and revenue, which it needs badly to survive, invest and expand and not retract.

In the UK it is an idea taken up by small airports such as Liverpool and Belfast City. I doubt the renaming has had any effect at all on the fortunes of these airports but it does smack of trying hard to put your name on the map. BHX does not need that and renaming the airport in this way would make it seem less than serious. In the US it is much more common but there they tend to be named after prominent figures from the political and aviation worlds.

It was Apron control (nothing to do with ATC who remained in the Elmdon building until the new Tower was built).

If you do a Google search for "Nick Barton" and "Tom Screen" there is a photo of both standing at the launch of the easyJet base.

Does that count?

haha that made me laugh, Tom has no qualifications or knowledge on how to run a business, or an airport, route development it a totally different area, you have alot to learn about buisness Ant! :ROFLMAO:
Tom has been to route development events more then Nick Barton out of his spinning chair 😂

On a serious note.Nick Barton has done a great job expanding routes and getting bases at bhx however the security is a serious mess

You would expect the person in charge of Route Development to be the main person heading to route development events would you not?

You mean the security which under Nick Barton is having £60m invested into?

Yes but it’s mainly been Tom and Andrew they went to Bahrain for Routes 2024

Girona for something regards to route development aswell but I can’t remember what it is off the top of my head.

I respect the fact Nick has been very busy with Terminal and Net Zero projects at bhx including Security however Them 3 have delivered decent routes though Andrew Pelham has been in the role around a year

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
