This is indeed good news for the West Midlands.Let's hope that the local politicians no matter which side they come from get behind the organisers.

Well, i am surprised- but maybe not! I am a Brummie, but what is it about us that does not respond with glee at good news? Is it that we have been kicked down so often in the past that we don't know whether to get back up again when adversity has dealt us another unfair blow.
Look, we have won the Commonwealth Games, perhaps the biggest sporting event aside from the Olympics. And, yes, it's coming to Brum.
Let's resound in our glee at this news. Believe me, these Games are going to be the greatest thing that ever happened to our city. Let's shout it from the rooftops boys....
And another thing, someone posted that this would turn Birmingham into a great international city.
Wake up, smell the coffee, Birmingham is already a great international city. OK, it does not have the best of the Premier League football teams, but it already has the fastest growing financial sector outside of London, the second largest population of any city outside London, the fastest growing economy outside of the South East and it also has Jasper Carrot.
Come on, bang the drum for Brum....

Thanks Ray for the post above re Coventry leading to flying clubs diverting to Wellesbourne. Thank goodness Wellesbourne is still there - threatened by a housing development but many signed the 'save our airport' petition - including me when I had enjoyed their all-day breakfast and a fantastic pudding one day (well I was on a long cycle ride!).

Absolutely Ray, Mr street has been great for the city and region. It was a great appointment, maybe he could be half our mayor and half BHX Chief Executive ?

I have been impressed with the level-headed approach displayed by bid team leaders including the Mayor, Andy Street, and feel confident that they have the combined abilities to make the Brum games an outstanding success in the same vein as that achieved by both Glasgow and Manchester. And in both those cities the legacy was that the games were replaced by both world class sporting infrastructure and urban regeneration. The same must be the aim here in Birmingham.
I have not seen it mentioned as yet, and frankly i don't know what legal or other factors might need to be considered, but i am sure a 'Brum Games 2022' lottery here in the Midlands would have the ability to raise £'s millions between now and the games' start.
If there were such a lottery, i would certainly buy my weekly ticket. For me, a win-win situation - i might win but Brum certainly would.

Congratulations to Birmingham on being officially chosen as the 2022 Comonwealth Games host city. This was the result that I had been so hoping for.
I'm sure that this will prove to be of great benefit to Birmingham and the West Midlands.
I also hope that it opens the eyes of people from further afield to just what a great city Birmingham is.
It still seems that there is a view that Birmingham is to be avoided. A concrete jungle with nothing to do, a rundown city with no prospects. Why this view from the 70's persists, I have no idea.
In truth, it is a wonderful modern vibrant city which is continuing to develop at a rapid pace. The cultural diversity is exceptional.
Visitors will find an excellent restaurant scene, including the largest number of Michelin stars outside London. Also, there are world class sporting, music, conference and exhibtion facilites as well as art and science museums. Shopping and transport are also well catered for.
I hope that the games bring Birmingham the worldwide recognition that it has so long deserved.
