Malvern District Council have revealed plans to boost tourism and grow the amount of international visitors to the region. Key partners include Birmingham Airport, the NEC and Birmingham International Railway Station.

Although it's been a few years since I last visited the area I remember it having some great walks and pretty spectacular views from the top of the hills. It seems very underrated at the moment, almost just a landmark pointed out as you zoom past on the M5.

It's a beautiful spot. Only last week my wife and I were chatting about going back there for a visit - would be the first time in about 20 years (long overdue!).

They wouldn't fly from BHX but an additional attraction could be an Elgar football-related trail aimed particularly at Wolverhampton Wanderers fans.

Don't forget that Birmingham is way out in front on the Urban Forum. Largely down to BrumX's efforts!
Cheers mate (y)

Kevin

I also make sure BHX is way ahead on the worldwide airports part of SSC :)

I do have a life away from my computer though guys, just wanted you to know that and i work full time. However this is my hobby and i love it.

A note to the general thread on BHX's web management (again). I find it astonishing that there is nothing about the Monarch demise posted yet. Even in the midst of gloom, surely a positive story of helping out others from other originating airports and coordination of the 'rescue' would look good as I do believe these are in action. A website is such an important interface with customers, as well as providing general information/search services, so why are they so desperately slow? Compare and contrast with e.g. Airbus where if there is an airbus crash anywhere they have a note of condolence and co-operation with the relevant investigatory agencies on the same day. This gives more of a message about its culture than the words themselves.

There is no article on the 'Latest News' section but at the top of the homepage there is a link where they usually post important information, the latest is All Monarch FLights Cancelled - Click here for more information.

Monarch Airlines Ceases Trading
Statement from Birmingham Airport

It is with regret to have been notified yesterday (02/10/17) that Monarch Airlines went into administration and ceased trading with immediate effect.

Passengers due to travel with Monarch are advised not to come to the Airport as there will be no more Monarch flights from the UK.

Anyone booked to travel with Monarch should visit https://monarch.caa.co.uk/ or call 0300 303 2800 from within the UK or +44 1753 330330 from overseas.

We’re working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Department for Transport (DfT) to support the effort to repatriate customers back to the UK over the coming weeks. The CAA will bring all passengers back to the UK at no cost to them.

For more information, please visit https://monarch.caa.co.uk/

Thanks Ray. I must have missed it despite the warning triangle (!) but because I did - and others' comments suggest that they didn't see it - then it perhaps should be more visible. I'd suggest always having one way to do things; here by showing all news in Latest News but I appreciate that I haven't much of a leg to stand on here.

The link below offers some information for customers due to travel with Monarch who may have pre-booked airport parking through either NCP or Birmingham Airport. It doesn't make it clear if they are offering refunds to those with non flexible bookings as it just says to get in touch, this was emailed to me from the airport though, so it would be one hell of a good gesture if they were.

So since the demise of Monarch we've seen Jet2 add three new routes and an extra aircraft on top of the sizeable increase they already had planned (their timings do leave the door slightly open for a 9th based) and TUi have now added two new routes and another based aircraft. Not too bad really considering it has been less than a week.

Will there be any more?

Thomas Cook - As mentioned they have 5 weekly away based flights which could easily be converted to based with an extra aircraft. It's set up perfectly for them to add one more.

Flybe - They do sun routes from other bases but they have not worked when tried from Birmingham. Lisbon? Nice? A return to Porto? Stockholm?

Ryanair - They are usually all over an event like this but they have their own issues at the moment. I think unpredictable is an understatement so we'll wait and see.

Blue Air - Larnaca still not on sale for S18 but this winter has been increased to 3x weekly. Could we see an increase for next summer? A based aircraft would do very nicely indeed.

BMI Regional - Rumours of a second aircraft persist, their type could be ideal for ARN?

BACF - It would be nice to see next years flights split over two days with an improvement on those horrendous timings. I wonder if they could be tempted to try a weekly Nice.

Cobalt - Hopefully they are having a rethink.

Norwegian/Vueling - No idea.

Primera - Short haul has been mentioned, now would be an ideal time.

Something new - ?

Re: Something new. Easyjet replied yesterday to a message and said they currently have no plans to set up a base at BHX, but as we know that means nothing. Brum X will keep banging the drum for BHX on the easyjet social media page. ;)

My lastest message from Easyjet, nice to see they are warming to the idea, yesterday it was a straight NO, today its a Mmmmmmmmmm lets have a think about this, LOL

This needs people power folks, i encourage as many of you to have Easyjet on your "other social media" and every post they put up about S18 on sale, mention BHX. I know we are not going to make this deal but people in power do look at social media sometimes, it can only help.

"I have forwarded your question over to our scheduling team Alan. They may look at this airport in the future. Thanks Dianne"

I have mentioned to Easyjet that Monarch had upto 9/10 aircraft at BHX at peak times which have gone overnight leaving a big hole in our network, you would be daft not to pick up some of these flights.

I've just added a couple of comments, I'll do some more in the future :)

It may also be worth mentioning it on Birmingham Airport social media.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
