I don't think there is anything that we don't already know but it's nice to see a positive article to start the year off :)
As you say Ray nothing we don't know but a nice positive article.
Meanwhile in 2018 the airports web site news section still leads with the October 2017 passenger figures.:banghead:

Hi there Ray and all, happy new year to all. Just been looking at another website, which is stating that Sir Richard Branson may own the land around Bhx, is there any truth in this at all.. AndyC

Nice fluth piece I suppose ignoring the fact Dubai was THREE daily until recently whilst NYC was TWO daily with more capacity and on competing legacies !

And Stockholm has been an on/off/on again route for the last three decades.

Even Toronto sees a simple carrier change admittedly improved frequency however not really offering such a huge seat boost overall.

Only Boston is a significant gain and that didn’t seem to get much of a push !

Imho it’s a rather poorly written piece of journalism to be honest.

Yesterday the airport put on their website a TUi press release about extra capacity to Hurghada, today various media outlets are running the story. I have to wonder why the same wasn't done with Phuket which I didn't see mentioned anywhere?

I hope that we see something about the new Primera routes.

What is that. Is it a Birmingham thing?
It is a proposed tax to be levied on visitors so by that a council who cannot control its schools, empty its residents bins
keep its roads repaired and is under threat of being taken over by the government can top up the money it plans to spend on the Commonwealth Games.

I remember reading somewhere that most of the land is/was owned by the council.
When the NEC was sold off to Lloyds a couple of years ago I think they leased it so that the council still own the land.
If I also recall, it was the same for the land to the east of the M42, but now most of that is going to HS2 anyway.

Edit: Just found a link which does reference something about the land, here.

Birmingham is to host the British American Business Council annual conference in June. It seems as if our performance in Chicago last May turned a few heads.

Good for the region and hopefully in turn good for the airport.

Great news, here's hoping we get a direct link to Chicago at some point in the future (I recently found out Birmingham is twinned with Chicago :wideyed:)

Why is Birmingham Airport not realising it's full potential?

New arrivals? Birmingham airport could handle a lot more flights

What to do with a problem like Birmingham

A poor article failing to answer any of the questions posed by itself? Lots of comparisons but seemingly no opinions about the direction that should be taken?

Luton may have seen impressive numbers in recent years but would their locals give up a share of that for direct connectivity to Delhi, Dubai, Doha, New York, Boston, Toronto? Would the good folk of Edinburgh sacrifice a service or two for, not single, but double daily A380 flights?

Maybe Mr Calder misses the point that, numbers wise, BHX has added roughly the throughput of EMA in the last four years alone and, not counting subsidiaries, Birmingham has 40 airlines, Edinburgh 36 and Luton just 13.

I could go on but it's not worth it :)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
