Use this prefix for new threads for Birmingham Airport
That's good to see. I remember saying last month that I didn't think Norwegian and Vueling could possibly coexist on the same route with Monarch and Ryanair.
Rarely has it been so pleasant to be proved wrong :)

I've been looking at the BHX website, and surprisingly, and shocking, the likes of JFK, PEK, MAD and WAW are all missing from their destination map.... a great shame.im sure people more in the know than me will also be able to find more... Ive tweeted the airport but worth a look to identify any others...

it is a shame however. the airport needs to be doing everything it can to promote new routes, so its a shame their route map is sooo out of date or inaccurate!!!!

The route map is a mess.

JFK has come and gone over the last few months alternating between direct and indirect, along with Chicago for some reason, yet Miami has remained as a 'direct' destination despite it being via New York.

Beijing has also appeared from time to time as direct although I suppose it's technically true for two months.

Delhi has appeared as telephone bookings only in the past and now Islamabad and Istanbul are showing as that despite you being able to book online.

As said Warsaw and Budapest haven't been added yet and Madrid is showing as indirect only yet when you click on it you see the Norwegian schedule.

Punta Cana has finally been added but Ashgabat has now disappeared.

This quote is interesting from BHX twitter, responding to a customer complaint Re: Delay at immigration yesterday.

Some of the reply included this "UKBF are working on resources to meet our expansion plans for the future"

Lack of UKBF staff is a problem faced by most airports and unfortunately it's the airport itself that pax blame when really it's pretty much out of their control.

It's a nice problem to have though and whenever I've been to the airport this year it's looked as busy as I've seen it since 2008. Next year could be even busier with the potential of more from Norwegian. Wizz, I've 'unofficially' heard, could add as many as five new destinations over the next 12-18 months and we still have one more new airline to come this year

Hopefully the new master plan will be revealed soon.

This topic on another forum makes for an interesting read. I wonder if there is anything in it or whether it's an innocent coincidence :dunno:

On Monday the 20th at 0910BST I was watching the Hainan Airlines 767 on approach to BHX when I noticed an unusual aircraft call sign DARK011 close behind heading towards BHX from the East Midlands direction.......

I suspect it's a coincidence although it's never possible to be certain of anything in the present world climate, and I'm not referring to the weather.

@Fly_Norwegian the check in at Birmingham airport for the flight to Malaga is horrendous being queuing for over an hour

The above is a Tweet to Norwegian and whilst it's great to see their flights full it goes to show that at times BHX is struggling to cope. In fairness it is one of the busiest times of the year but with new services starting it's not going to get any better.

I hope the new master plan is at an advanced stage.

And i think at the moment they only have a couple of desks in the corner next to Easyjet.
Id like all these carriers (Norweigan/Ryanair/Flybe/Vueling/Easyjet and maybe Aer Lingus to have check in desks in the old T2 area and the rest in the old T1 area.

Yes I know - I was asking what occupies the old ones by the Emirates check in area. Has that freed up some space?

No it hasnt.

The last time i was there, Ryanair and Thomson have just changed visa versa, Thomson are where Ryanair were and Ryanair are where Thomson used to be.

So basically they have both moved their check-in desks to the opposite end of the terminal from which their planes depart. :s_no

EXACTLY :shok:

The question therefore remains to be answered with regard to expansion....

yes their is this mooted new 'low cost pier' being built, but actually, piers and aircraft stands don't appear to be the most immediate concern with regard to capacity.... is it the terminal facitities which are under strain the most... i.e. checkin desks, security, departure lounge size?

if that is indeed the case, what room is there to extend the existing terminal?

I think there is plenty of room to expand the departure lounge towards the railway, there doesn't seem to be much there.

The check in areas would appear to be a little more difficult. I've always thought that the car park to the right of T1 could be demolished which would give enough room to almost double the size of the terminal but I assume that would be a very expensive option and it might be more beneficial to just replace or remodel T2.

I agree.

It would seem the most logical option without having to reroute roads, demolish terminals or dig up huge mounds of the car park. Regus have just spent quite a large amount on their new business centre although if they were to be accommodated into the new build I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
