The ironic thing for Manchester in particular of the list, is that very few passengers from Manchester actually use the PIA flight to New York, yet it has to put up with the tag of having the UK's most delayed flight.....

I see Air India were also on that list.
I mention this as there was a delay on last nights flight. As I understand it,the aircraft had developed a technical problem which led to engine testing at around 2300 last night.
The flight eventually left at about 0130.
The aircraft in question was VT-ANE B788.
Air India have really improved the reliability of both the 787 fleet and the service from BHX.
It is unfortunate that delays like this will get highlighted in the media, especially when you consider how much has been done to improve the service.

Wondering if the delays on PIA and Turkmenistan flights are because they get a heavier security treatment. Considering the region is a terrorism hotbed then i wonder if the baggage cargo plane and passengers get a more intensive security check than normal? It might not be the airlines that are at fault but due to where they fly in from.

Modern and Unique Children's Facility Launched at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport recently launched two newly designed and interactive children’s pre-flight play areas giving thousands of youngsters jetting off on holiday a fun and engaging experience in the terminal.

The ‘Sky Zone’ airport play zones are designed for 3-10 year olds, and feature Sky Cadet ‘Zoom’, the Airport’s mascot. They are free to use and are located at Gates 3 and 54, serving both departure lounges in the terminal.

The experience begins the moment children check-in and are given an interactive ‘flight pack’, the ultimate airport activity manual, bursting with fun games and puzzles designed to engage, amuse and inspire. As children make their way through the terminal to Sky Zone, floor stickers lead the way and feature clues to activities in the flight pack. Each zone has been specially designed to prevent children from getting ‘bored before they board’ with a selection of interactive games and activities, including a uniquely designed security spot check game, fly pads, a reaction station, a musical mission pod, memory games and many more exciting interactive experiences.

David Winstanley, Birmingham Airport’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “For many people their holiday starts the moment they step into the airport. We want both adults and children to find our facilities world class and their experience here memorable and positive.

“The redesigned Sky Zone gives us the opportunity to offer children a fun and exciting play area with games and activities centred on aviation to educate our young passengers about the airport.”

In addition, the airport has launched a new digital platform called Sky Zone Online for older children. This is an interactive digital zone where children can learn about the behind-the-scenes goings-on at the airport featuring animated videos and audio clips and it is available on the airport’s website.

Birmingham Airport worked in partnership with The Business Creative, a creative and entertainment production company which produces immersive entertainment experiences for companies all over the world, to create the Sky Zone areas.

Director of The Business Creative, Jane Maguire, said: “Modernising and relaunching Sky Zone has been such an exciting project. The key to ensuring its success has been to work with the feedback we gathered from parents and children about the previous play area and combining this with the very latest technology to produce an entirely unique airport play experience.

“We discovered parents wanted more energy burning games for younger passengers in a safe and stimulating environment. With this in mind each zone was carefully designed to ensure physical and mental skills were tested such as co-ordination, speed and agility.

“We very much enjoyed working on this ground-breaking concept and we are extremely proud of the unique facilities now on offer to younger passengers at Birmingham Airport.”

Looks great. Far too many airports have got rid of childrens play areas to use for money making ventures. Good on BHX for providing such excellent facilities.

Airport's profits soar during successful year
26th August 2016

PROFITS at Birmingham Airport have soared by nearly £10m as its passenger numbers continue to set new records.

Revenues reached £130.7m and pre-tax profits were £24.7m in the year to March, with both increasing by £9.7m. It is the first jump in profits in the last three years, a period that has seen revenues increase by £23m.

Dividends paid during the year nearly doubled to £18.1m. The airport is owned by the seven metropolitan boroughs in the West Midlands - which collectively hold 49% - and the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, which has 48.25%.

Passenger numbers increased 5.5% to a record high of 10.4m during the financial year, the fifth consecutive increase, boosted by 11 new airlines. The airport has maintained its growth in passenger numbers throughout 2016 and is on target to surpass 11m.

Commercial income increased twice as fast as passenger numbers, helped by refurbished Wetherspoon's, Dixons and Next. The airport hopes to continue this momentum with the addition of Joe and the Juice coffee unit and a "significant redevelopment" of its duty free store.

Income from airlines also increased, albeit more slowly, rising 4.0%.

It said the Brexit vote had "introduced uncertainty to the favourable underlying trend" but it was too early to determine its impact.

Birmingham Airport Light Up The Air Traffic Control Tower Gold For Child Cancer Awareness

Birmingham Airport is supporting childhood cancer by being part of its awareness campaign. From the 1st September Birmingham Airport’s Air Traffic Control Tower (ATC) will be lit up gold from dusk to dawn to support a group of parents of children with cancer to raise awareness of children’s cancer.

The Airport is taking part in Glow Gold September, which is a childhood cancer awareness campaign to get iconic buildings and landmarks throughout the UK and the rest of the World to illuminate in gold during the month of September. Using the interest generated to spread the word on the early warning signs and symptoms.

Julie Yates, mum of 16 year old Niamh who had bone cancer in 2012 and is now 4 years in remission approached the Airport to ask for support of the campaign. Julie says “Our aim at Glow Gold has been to ensure the colour gold becomes synonymous with childhood cancer and our awareness month September. We have been asking iconic buildings and landmarks to illuminate gold. And have been asking charities to work together to raise the profile of childhood cancer and improve awareness. We hope with the interest generated to disseminate the early warning signs and symptoms through the be child cancer aware and headsmart awareness cards”

Jo Lloyd, Commercial Director commented: “We are delighted to join in this very worthwhile cause. Birmingham Airport’s Air Traffic Control Tower is an iconic building in the Midlands and it made perfect sense for the Airport to be involved and for us to join in and light the tower up gold. Hopefully with awareness more can be done to see the early warning signs and help children and young people.”

11 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every day. Of those over a quarter won’t survive the treatment and the vast majority will be left with lifelong side effects from the treatments that have changed little in the last 30 years.

Julie continues “Knowledge is power, and we wish to empower parents with the knowledge required to pick up the signs and symptoms early. We are proud to have over 190 buildings and landmarks signed up to Glow Gold in September throughout the UK and the rest of the world. From Birmingham Airport ATC Tower and Old Joe Clocktower to Edinburgh Castle, Canary Wharf, Niagara Falls and the Olympic Cauldron Vancouver. Most venues will be glowing gold on the evening of the 1st from dusk until dawn in tribute to the children and families affected by childhood cancer, past and present. We are asking people to come along to our advertised events and please take photos of the illuminations and send them in to us, as we would love to see them.”

With increased awareness, comes earlier diagnosis, increased funding, increased research, kinder more targeted therapy and ultimately a change in the prognosis for kids diagnosed with childhood cancer. We can’t affect the future of our own children and grandchildren but we are determined to change the future for others.

Let’s get the world glowing gold this September!

As someone that lives under the Sword of Damocles, I can fully understand how such a thing can affect you and yours Thunder!!

Six Strokes, multiple injuries resulting from said Strokes with the permanent disabilities therefrom, and knowing each day is precious and to be treasured.

As an an alleged adult of 57yrs as of this very day  I would add that I no longer allow myself to be bullied onto a course of treatments by Doctors if it impinges upon my enjoyment of what remaining days, as yet unquantified, I have been allocated by himself up above.

I need legal Narcotic therapy to manage daily living and this brings it's own consequences not least the signing of a Drugs register.

On a personal level, a diagnosis of a Cancer would not bother me in the slightest because I already know the method of my departure of this existence.

I would enjoy telling the Consultants that I shall decline any Chemotherapy but may accept Radiotherapy only if it is useful considering my Cerebral Vascular Disease issues.

Life is complex for an adult and as such decisions are a tad easier but for children? I cannot claim insight since I am childless owing to Birth Defects.

As that alleged adult, I would like to offer my honesty with my best humanity in thought to you Thunder even if I have little care for my own demise!!

“Birmingham Airport can confirm that a young boy climbed on to the baggage belt in the arrivals hall.

Where was/were the parent(s) when this small boy was climbing on the baggage belt? I realise that baggage reclaim is a busy time but when you have a piece of moving machinery directly in front of you then controlling the kids is priority number one.

I do hope that the child isn't seriously hurt and makes a recovery.

Firstly I do hope the boy recovers quickly from his injuries despite his apparent foolishness.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen children climbing on baggage belts while their parents look on and ignore it as if it's completely acceptable behavior. In cases like this I do wonder if parents should be issued fines whereby they are seen to be ignoring the situation.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
