They are in, but wont be operational for a month or two. They have gotta find some engineers first and give them the free engine courses that they said on there FB page, that will no doubt have strings attached.....like a bond lol.

Not sure why this has taken so long to appear as a Press release - taking lessons from BHX PR team :(

US aviation company swoops for former Monarch hangar

A purpose built 145,000 sq ft aircraft maintenance hangar at Birmingham Airport has been sold to US firm STS Aviation Group.

Acting on behalf of the Joint Administrators of Monarch Aircraft Engineering, Avison Young handled the sale of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hangar facility.

The facility, constructed in 2013, extends to over 145,000 sq ft and benefits from a two acre airside apron, and provides STS with a purpose built MRO hangar which will act as their central European hub.

“The hangar is an exceptional facility and Avison Young is delighted to have supported the administrators from KPMG with the disposal process”, said Chris Davies, associate at Avison Young Birmingham office.

“This was a unique instruction appealing to an international marketplace. Through a comprehensive marketing campaign and Avison Young’s worldwide network, a new owner has been secured, bringing a skilled workforce back to the region.

“The aviation sector is going through a period of change with consolidation both in the UK and internationally. This transaction demonstrates the strength of both the UK and Birmingham as a strategic MRO location.

“Avison Young has extensive experience in the aviation sector and continues to build on this success, advising both operators and airports on their property assets and strategic requirements.”

STS will employ new technical staff at the facility, steadily opening up new jobs as workload increases in line with Birmingham Airport’s forecasted growth, which expects passenger numbers to increase from 13 million to 18 million by 2033.

I have heard it will be initally modification work, dont know what types.

I had a call today from a contractor agency asking if I was available for a contract at BHX for Apple (STS), they want A320,A330 and 787 engineers. So that gives a clue as to what types they are looking at.

The old monarch logo's will soon be gone, they have started taking them down airside above the hangar doors.

They're now coming down on the side facing the A45.

Sad to see the last remaining traces of Monarch disappear but great to see new life being bought back into the hangar.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
