Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

It has surprised me that no replacement for the 3xdaily BMI CDG service has been found yet. Granted Jet2 offer CDG but not for interlining, so an Air France 2xdaily may one day happen.
But what about the several times mooted LBA to FRA service by BMI or LH. or even a BFS and/or GLA to FRA via LBA ? The fact that KLM are increasing their AMS service to 4xdaily is, I think, an indication that there are potential customers in the Yorkshire region who would prefer to fly 'local' rather than a trip across the Pennines and given greater choice would do so.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Given the continuing reduction in Ryanair flights to DUB due to their onging row with the Irish Government over taxes, there must surely be scope now for Aer Lingus to operate at least one flight a day from LBA to allow the interlining through to the USA - something they operated in the past before pulling out of the airport. They tried it at DSA and like many of their routes it failed, but there are many less seats available to DUB now than there used to be when we had 3 738 rotations a day, so perhaps the potential is there now?

We badly need a proper service to Paris to allow for interlining. One flight a day is poor. As mentioned above, Frankfurt is another hub we need a link to. With no LHR link now, many more people are looking to interline through other hub airports and I am sure Tony Hallwood will be focussing on these with the airlines.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I would love to be able to make use of KLMs hub network in Amsterdam - it's just that I find KLM so expensive! I always find it cheaper to go down to Heathrow and fly direct to wherever I want to go, mainly the US, including the cost to get down there. If you book far enough in advance, you can get tickets as low as £5 each way on the train (from Doncaster at least), and then a further £2ish on the tube direct from Kings Cross. Hopefully, one day...!

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

For the purpose of USA connections, I am the only one who can't see the logic in flying east to AMS then turning round and flying back west again (back over northern england in most cases) in order to get to a given usa destination? For me the only advantage would seem to be that you'd avoid using Heathrow. It would be s u c h an advantage to have a regular direct link in to the US but I realise it all comes down to economics

I have no hang-ups about flying to AMS then to North America - in my case it would be from Bristol and I've done it several times in the past. In the context of the overall distance the relatively short hop eastwards is of little consequence, in my opinion, but I accept that there are others who think as michael does.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I would have thought there is more traffic heading East so AMS is a good option.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I have flown to Mexico from both Heathrow and Humberside - the convenience of flying Humberside to AMS with KLM is ok as its only 40mins from home, the connection is very good but the return journey isnt. The cost of flying from Heathrow including the train fare and overnight hotel works out betwen £100 and £150 less to fly direct to Mexico with BA

Lets hope it proves sustainable for the future.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Didn't they operate 4 x daily before? It might have been as far back as before 9/11 if anybody can remember.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

The last time the KLM Amsterdam route operated 4x daily was about 2007 when LBA had 3x daily Fokker 100's and 1x daily Fokker 70 on the route.

Back before 9/11 i think LBA had a 6x daily KLMuk Fokker 50 service. Same as Humberside at the time if i remember correctly.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

New timetable next week and new Europe Business Class, replacing Europe Select. Apparently it's the end of the random 'Dutch Delights' food boxes.. I will report back what we get instead!

Flying out on the monday afternoon, back friday evening (LBA-AMS-SVG & vv). Was on a waitlist for friday's flight until just now so I expect it to be a full Fokker.

Aviador are you sure thats the new flight.

As the KL1549/1550 service is currently the exsisting afternoon LBA departure but with a later afternoon arrival time. Also that is the one that will only run Monday to Friday.
For me the new 4th daily rotation will be the KL1547/1548 lunchtime arrival and departue which will operate everyday.

Inbound
KL1547 12:45 12:50 Daily
Outbound
KL1548 13:30 15:45 Daily

I am a bit suprised they dropped KL1550 at least on sundays - it was always pretty full when I took it.

However it does give me a better excuse not to travel out on sundays for work, so maybe it's a bit of a blessing.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I've noticed over this weekend that there are now quite a few new Billboards in and around Leeds area that KLM are currently using to advertise there extra flights and more onward world wide connections from Leeds/Bradford via there Amsterdam hub

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Not sure if it was a one-off or if it a regular thing, but last night's KL1551 (AMS to LBA) was a Fokker 100 rather than the usual F70 (and with 91 pax, a full fokker at that).

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
