I am prepared to make some compromises to support LBA. 3 hours would be fine.
That’s a fair comment but for me travelling there for only a few days it's the duration of flights on this occasion, yes I want to support LBA 100% and I do in 99% of my flights.

Thats 'fair' enough. I cant remember the KLM timings outbound but coming back it was a day flight. There may have been some consolidation recently with AF as a result of not being able to overfly Russia.

I was always happy to sit in the lounge and watch aeroplanes, but I suppose it depends what class you are flying.

KLM at LBA - Winter 2024/2025
This winter KLM are operating from LBA to AMS at 20x weekly, down from 28x weekly in 2023. Losing 8x weekly flights is the biggest decrease in flights out of all UK airports that KLM serve. CWL, loses its nightstopping aircraft but only loses 6x weekly flights vs 2023.
LHR, LCY and MAN also lose a few flights per week vs 2023.
HUY, MME, BHX, BRS, ABZ, EDI all see 1-2x extra flights per week, and BHD goes from 7x to 14x weekly.

Nov 2023 - 28x weekly (19x E175 / 9x E190)
Nov 2024 - 20x weekly (11x E175 / 9x E190) - 1x departure on Sundays operated by Eastern E190s

That's rubbish KLM!

It would be nice if they knew something we dont regarding a second carrier on this route. Such a reduction certainly opens the door for easyJet should they wish to walk through it though it seems a bit late now for this winter. Given the high loads on the KLM route it seems a very odd decision to make given LBAs relatively sparse offering to long haul hubs . Less flights and predominantly on smaller 175s. It makes you wonder if they had been relying on German Airways and for some reason they are no longer involved, leaving KLM with a shortage of equipment and Eastern only available once weekly.

Interesting that MME and HUY are getting more flights.

With, as yet, no Paris or Geneva flights next summer from easyJet the airport needs to be approaching them to add AMS to their flight schedules from LBA. Lots of passengers love going over to the Nederlands for short and weekend breaks, gives competition to KLM, hopefully reducing fares, and leave those using Schiphol for long haul through ticketing to the remaining KLM flights out of LBA. We desperately need easyJet on this route.

If we have lost x8 klm flights a week plus the vast majority of the other flights are smaller E175 that adds upto a big loss! If LBA was to gain a x2 daily KLM B737 mainline service then fare enough, this would be good news but not the case!
So ideally easyjet using A319s daily plus 2 daily for the wkend leisure trips to Amsterdam ie thur, fri, sun would be ideal to start.
2 choice of carriers, klm with onwards connections and easyjet with cheaper fares for the masses.

You’re in cloud cuckoo land if you think easyjet would offer a multiple daily service if they start a route to Amsterdam.
We’ll be lucky to get 4/5 weekly without the based aircraft. You’ve just got to take a look at what they offer from Southampton, Southend and Newcastle to see what I mean.

AMS-NCL
Summer 2024 = 2x weekly (Thu & Sun)
Winter 2024/25 = 1x daily (Mon-Sun)
AMS-SEN
Summer 2024 = 4x weekly (Mon, Thu-Fri & Sun)
Winter 2024/25 = 5x weekly (Mon-Tue, Thu-Fri & Sun)
AMS-SOU (New Route)
Winter 2024/25 = 2x weekly (Mon & Fri)

I’ll eat my hat if they do.

Well lets hope you have to eat your hat as the AMS route operated by KLM is slowly going down the pan. From 4 times daily a few years ago we have now been overtaken by the likes of Humberside in offering more daily flights.

I guess what a mean is in a perfect world a daily flight and x2 at wkends would be great, but yes i agree with you that easyjet would never offer such a large volume of flights to start with. Im thinking perfect world scenario! With such a loss of klm flights something needs to occur though!

The merger with AF was the start of it and I doubt if they have finished yet either. A good carrier going downhill I'm afraid.

KLM’s problems mainly stem from the Engine issues with City Hopper’s Embrear 190-E2’s & Mainline getting rid of the Boeing 737-700’s meaning the is a reduced capacity fleet wide.
Hence all these leased aircraft have been drafted in from both Eastern & German Airways.

Also the fact the Dutch Government is trying everything in the book to restrict movements at Schiphol airport isn’t helping the situation. It’s bit like what Leeds city council are doing to LBA.

If Easyjet did start Amsterdam it's not going to a daily route. It would more likely be 2 weekly to start to target the weekend away market. That's assuming they could get the slots.

If we had a BA service back to LHR then it might ease the blow.
Yeah I agree with you @Bigman Maybe KLM have got a wiff off it!

As I can see LBA-LHR route been operated multiple times daily, especially if as mentioned earlier this week that Loganair take it up and operate it as a full British Airways codeshare service.
That along with Easyjet picking up the weekend Amsterdam breaks market might have been enough a reason for KLM to make the capacity cut this winter.

It will be interesting to see what happens next summer if everything comes online?

I cant see KLM considering any competition when making the decision, after all Loganair and Easyjet are far from being a reality and even if they do come off it wont be until the next summer timetable. If/when competition arrives I expect KLM's response is more likely just to be to drop the point to point prices (LBA-AMS)

maybe the reduction is KLM flights in actually down to load factory/yield?

Looking at the June passenger figures, the CAA quotes 14,719 passengers flew to/from Amsterdam. Based on 3 daily E190 flights, (E175 on the 29/30th) thats 17,880 available seats.

Load factor of 82.3% - is that enough to warrant an extra daily flight or larger aircraft? And how many of those seat were sold at a low price level, just to fill the aircraft?

re Easyjet, even on a daliy A319, that 156 seats each way, 312 a day. For a 30 day month thats an extra 9360 seats

is there therefore enough demand from Leeds/Bradford for 17,880 + 9,360 = 27,240 seats a month? personnally I don't think so.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
