Fantastic news and three routes that will be more than welcome back.

I've heard initially six times weekly but I'll wait for the official timetable for conformation.

BHX-Billund added from 3rd June :good:

From June 3, the British regional carrier will fly to Billund in Denmark from Birmingham in central England, as bmi regional’s 10th new route in 2013.

The new route will fly six times a week, on Monday through to Friday and on Sunday.

Jesper Klausholm, head of Airline Relations and Marketing at Billund Airport, said that more than 40% of Danes going to the West Midlands are travelling for business.

“Over 70 Danish companies have offices in the UK Midlands,” he said. “This new route from Billund with Birmingham is going to greatly improve business connections between these two cities.”

Billund Airport, in West Denmark, is the country’s second largest airport with 42% of Danish GDP generated in its catchment area, he added.

bmi regional’s recent new European routes from Birmingham include Toulouse, Lyon and Gothenburg.

On Monday-Friday, the flight will take off from Birmingham (BHX) at 7am and touch down in Billund (BLL) at 9.40am, then leave BLL at 10.10am to arrive at BHX at 11am.

On Sunday, the flight will leave BHX at midday and land in BLL at 2.40pm, then set off at 3.10pm to land at 4pm.

British Airways currently flies the only UK route to Billund from London City Airport (LCY).

Lyon looks like it has been reduced from 6 to 3x weekly, Sun, Mon and Fri. I imagine Flybe starting the route has bought this about, hopefully BMI Regional can replace it with somewhere else for winter.

Bmi regional is a funny one at the moment. The buyout is leading to all sort of restructures within the company with base closures and base openings. So I would imagine they're finding their feet at the moment and chopping routes and rotations that are non performers. Flybe will inevitably stretch competition to the point when it might not be viable for both operators on the Lyon route and it might be a battle Bmi Regional don't wish to pursue.

Billund's load factor for July is low at 34%. Gothenburg and Toulouse are getting there at 50%. Lyon is 71% but that is split with Flybe.

No surprise really but Lyon ends in a couple of weeks. Flybe are doing very well on the route and were always going to be the winner, especially with their AF codeshares and bmi reducing down to 3x weekly before even starting, it's just unfortunate that they both released on the same day. Nothing on sale yet for the winter so it remains to be seen if they replace it.

Im sorry to say but I csn see BM dropping BHX alltogether.

2 routes to sustain a 2 aircaft base, and Gothenburg was not the strongest of performes fir City Airline either.

I find it hard to see exactly what BM could do at BHX. Its squeezed so much by flybe and Ryanair, and the aircraft are too small and expensive to run high leisure/possible connection routes to the likes of Lisbon and Madrid.

If they are still at BHX by the end of Summer 2014 ill be genuinely surprised.

I suppose it all depends on how willing they are to try new routes. Birmingham must still have it's fair share of unserved routes that might be doable?

BHX has plenty of unserved routes, Madrid, Lisbon, Budapest, Warsaw, Prague, Oslo... to name but a few but I fear the ones possible for BM to operate probably don't fit into their model.

I have to agree, unless they can come up with two new routes that will be instantly profitable, which isn't going to happen, then I can't see a future for them. The end of summer 2014 will also most likely bring them close to the end of the start up incentives and with BHX not exactly being the cheapest place to operate out of I think they'll be gone.

There is a certain amount of speculation on various aviation forums about BMI apparently closing three bases including BHX. Can anybody shed any light on this?

Ended or ending this week BHX-TLS, BRS-HAJ & EDI-ZRH and flights not bookable

MAN-LYS 10/11
MAN-ANTWERP 29/11
EDI-MAN 29/11
BHX-BILLUND 30/11
GLA-CPH 30/12
EDI-BRU 31/12
EDI-CPH 06/1/14
BHX-GOT 29/03/14

Sad to see them go but not surprising really. Lyon was unfortunate that it was announced the same day as Flybe and they didn't really stand a chance, Toulouse has come and gone over the years and seemed to work best as summer only for Flybe, Billund is another that has been and gone, Gothenburg seems to be the one shining light and lasts the winter but I guess it's non viable as a single stand alone route. It's a shame somewhere like Oslo wasn't tried.

Gothenburg appears to be bookable through the summer so looks like it's staying, for now.

BM1441 BHX 16:30 GOT 19:35 ER4 x6 Until 22JAN14
BM1441 BHX 17:55 GOT 20:55 ER4 x6 From 23JAN14

BM1442 GOT 16:20 BHX 17:25 ER4 x6 From 23JAN14
BM1442 GOT 20:05 BHX 21:15 ER4 x6 Until 22JAN14

From the 23rd Jan the flight operates SVG-GOT-BHX-GOT-SVG, I wonder if they've considered making BHX-SVG available for a few extra pax.

GOT could be another one for Flybe should BMI pull off the route; I wonder if they looked at Billund? I know the loads were hardly stellar but I don't think BMI really gave the route enough time.

Is it just me or is BMI under it's new ownership is proving much less popular than we'd all hoped? It has become the norm on various aviation message boards to discuss who will take on routes when BMI fail. I wish them well of course but I fear the brand has lost public confidence to such an extent they'd be better off completely re-branding to another name altogether. Thoughts?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
