And Skyscanner's Unserved Route of the Week is revealed as Manchester - Mumbai with 725000 searches.

"In total O&D traffic, Manchester-Mumbai ranks third behind Heathrow and Paris CDG, and way ahead of several routes that have direct services, e.g. Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Zurich and Istanbul,

Bangkok and Mumbai really are logical steps - with MAN being the largest unserved market from Mumbai and the largest unserved market out of Thailand. Come on Thai or Jet Airways! I'm sure this is definitely first on Vistara's radar for LH.

What's also interesting is that MAN-BOM has also has the highest conversion rate from search to sale out of all the unserved routes published by Anna.aero so far.

It is extraordinarily high. Very biased to the UK end. Like BKK, BOM is MEB3 territory, so yield may be an issue if an airline were to serve direct.
  • VS - pulled out of BOM recently, may struggle with connections?
  • Jet - no chance while they are in bed with EY.
  • Vistara - perhaps?
  • Scoot - as likely as Vistara

The only note of caution. Re VS.

Why would the route work from Manchester but not Heathrow.

Granted they had competition at Heathrow but presumably this was part of a much larger pie?

Cheers Ian,

Now to work out who leaked my info (this was the new airline I was alluding to). Only told a couple of trusted people and I know it's my info that's been leaked as I made a delibirate mistake in the timings to which the above post has.

I think each of my suggestions have drawbacks. Certainly VS looking east from MAN would be a strategic shift. I don't know if this would fill a strategic gap for DL, but I doubt it.

Those search stats are incredible. Do we know the O&D figure for BHX as surely the Manchester figures must be higher ?

Yep, definitely, but I firmly believe SQ to MAN will remain unaffected - Norwegian offers a very different proposition to this.

Any ideas if and when the new Cyprus Airways will start operating into MAN, I think their new livery is pretty nice, and it would be good to see them back.

I see Jet Airways is adding Chennai-Paris and Hydrabad-Amsterdam this winter.

Such a shame that we can't seem to get a huge route like Mumbai-Manchester served, which is perfect for Jet, yet they are now opening secondary Indian cities to mainland Europe.

Frustrating doesn't cut it.

It is Chennai-Paris and Bangalore-Amsterdam. In the press release, it says that passengers will be able to connect to major European cities such as... and Manchester is included.

Come on Jet Airways!

I mean secondary in the sense that Delhi and Mumbai are the main airports, with places like Chennai, Bangalore etc second tier in the fact they are not the main hubs for the airline.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
