We've also got the ongoing saga of Shanghai that appears to be in a state of flux over decent slots becoming available there. in the meantime, I've found this graphc from the Slots conference in Kuala Lumpur in June.

I wonder what the routes are?

There was also this article

@David_itl can you direct me to the graphic above from the KUL slot conference please? I'm not sure I understand what it shows or means!

cheers!

Cheers - my reading is that other airports (not in the UK), that don't currently have a route to MAN, have cited that they want a route to MAN.

This could be somewhere reasonably local like Moscow, or more exotic like Tokyo.

On page 23 of the same article there was a large ad from MAN.

I've noticed this being listed on FR24 arrivals for quite a few days now. A route to be resurrected?

18:00 BA8233 Gothenburg (GOT) British Airways FRJ Scheduled

Seems very odd that it should crop up months after it last operated. Unless I've not been paying too much attention to the breakdown of arrivals over that period of time and it's always been listed.

Suggestions that MAN could be linked to Cardiff via their PSO flights, not sure at this stage how it would work, whether it's a Cardiff-Anglesey-Manchester route, or just CWL-MAN, but, could be one to watch.

If it's a PSO then I'd have thought it would have to include Anglesey but it's only a 90 mins 2 hour drive at most to MAN.
Not sure CWL-MAN could qualify as a PSO route.

I don't think it's an actual PSO route, it's just using the aircraft off the PSO route.

The way the article was worded, it sound like that because the aircraft sits at CWL a long time, they are looking to use it on another route to increase utilisation.

CWL-Vallley is on this schedule:

CWL 0735-0825 Valley 0855-0945 CWL CWL 1610-1700 Valley 1730-1820 CWL

Can they rejig timings to allow 2 daily ops here?

CWL 0645-0735 Valley 0800-0850 CWL CWL 0915-1015 MAN 1100-1200 CWL
CWL 1530-1630 MAN 1655-1755 CWL CWL 1820-1910 Valley 1935-2025 CWL

It would mean that they could potentially connect onto this lot in fantasy land tomorrow:

I'm not sure if would allow viable connections?

You would have to knock off the PHL, JED and ATL connections. Any CWL service would likely use T3, and you need to allow a minimum of 45 minutes for a connection, especially over to T2.

Problem with VLY is i believe the ATC operates between 8am and i think 18.30.
If the flight is delayed after 18.30 it usually gets diverted to Hawarden.

I'd brow beat AA, VS and SV to retime their outbound departures by 30 minutes by (falsely?) claiming they could eek out a few more passengers connecting onto their routes!

If they did look at a CWL service I believe they would target point 2 point traffic and maybe US connections especially VS and TCXs services. They wouldn't want eastbound connections with Qatar starting up next year.

CWL is a massive hole in MANs connecting traffic within the UK. Massive city unserved by long haul.

if those timings are an issue for ATC at Valley, then aircraft 1 goes

CWL 0715-0810 Valley 0835-0925 CWL CWL 1000-1100 MAN 1330-1430 CWL 1610-1700 Valley 1730-1820 CWL

and get aircraft 2 doing

CWL 0650-0750 MAN 0920-1020 CWL 1100-1200 IOM 1300-1400 CWL 1700-1800 MAN 1900-2000 CWL

That widens the scope for connecting to VS/MT and into the domestic hub operation. Whether getting the route operating 3 daily is too much is something I fear!

Iran Air are slowly expanding their presence with new aircraft.

How long before MAN is on their radar...

Route Development Summary July

We are about to enter the major route development season and I am going to do my summary of the recent development updates:

USA:

Served: It would appear all flights this year are bookable for next summer (except TCX to Miami, but this does appear on the schedule). In the current climate, this is good news.

Unserved: Thomas Cook, should they get the aircraft, seem to be looking to add MSY/TPA/SAN. Personally, I would see Tampa as the front runner, as they are desperate for a link to Manchester. Let's remember, also, that we got the news a couple of weeks ago that many Dutch were transferring through Manchester onto TCX TATL flights. All three of those destinations are only served from LON/ZRH/FRA, so transfer opportunities are rife.

We also have the prospect of Thomas Cook adding a business class cabin onto their A330s.

China:

Served: There are strong rumours that Beijing will continue daily 787 into the winter season.

Unserved: Hainan apparently has applied to serve Guangzhou from Manchester on a thrice-weekly basis. If this comes to fruition, it is big news and a massive coup to Manchester.

In addition to this, Hainan also want to gain the rights to the Shanghai route, but can't release Air China's grip. Whether CA will make a move on this and when is beginning to be the million dollar question.

Asia:

Served: The Singapore transit flight seems to be gaining traction; a daily flight would be desirable.

The Cathay Pacific services continue to go from strength to strength and go daily in December. Is 10-weekly possible? If not, a switch to the A350-1000 is surely on the cards when received.

Unserved: Scoot wants to gain more rights to be able to fly from SIN-BOM-Europe and they have been vociferous that MAN would be their desired destination. Vistara are also adding to their fleet, with ambitions to go long-haul. Both carriers are owned by Singapore Airlines, whom have a great relationship with Manchester.

Malaysia Airlines are back in expansion mode. After the recent rumour that Air Asia X were going to serve MAN-KUL, could MAN be on the cards for MH?

Africa:

Unfortunately it seems the anticipated Cape Town services are now just a series of charters.

Middle East:

Served: The Oman Air flights seem to be off to a good start, with the CEO stating the loads looked much better later on in the year.

Unserved: Kuwait Airways look to be starting MAN service in some format. It could be in the form of a transit flight to IAD or ORD, but also rumoured is a 3x weekly terminator flight with 332/77W aircraft and could begin as early as this August.

Another USA and Asia route is Kuwait Airways.

It's ever more apparent that they are likely to serve KWI-MAN-IAD-MAN-KWI as early as this year.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
