Today's Dutch Correndon operated via STN (not LGW). I don't know whether that was a one-off or whether it is the plan for the full season.

What are the timings?

Thomson have also operated their first, if I am not mistaken, HKT-MAN flight as BY105 today. Somewhere over Romania currently.

The EU ruled the proposed NI deal to be illegal state aid. Airport MD sounds livid. Looks like they've just won afew more friends for BREXIT in Northern Ireland!
There must be another way to sidestep that ie a loan for route development or something like that?

Phuket went out yesterday. Return flight tonight.
Yes, their first HKT-MAN flight! Arrived in MAN about an hour ago. Great to see a far eastern network building up.

Could you please tell me the correndon timings?

Just been doing some number crunching for Summer 2017.

Long haul wise, Manchester has 37 destinations and 241 weekly one way flights. This is only on CONFIRMED routes and does not include places like Istanbul or Keflavik, which are predominantly long haul connection airports, but still not long haul in themselves.

I thought that was quite impressive, and probably more to come. I may have missed some but obviously that 37 destinations also doesn't include the likes of Goa, Mauritius, Antigua etc, which are winter routes.

I'll have a go at listing LH routes available only at MAN in the UK, outside of LGW and LHR:

  • Singapore
  • Houston
  • Hong Kong
  • Jeddah
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • Boston
  • Washington
  • Chicago
  • Atlanta
  • Beijing
  • Goa
  • Muscat (starts 2017)
  • San Francisco (Starts 2017)
  • Shanghai (Starts 2017)
  • Mauritius (Starts 2017)
  • Cape Town (Starts 2017)
There are a a number of Caribbean routes and a number of strong rumours (San Diego, Bangkok) that would add to this list.

Great list! SAN/BKK/CAN/TPA/ADD would all be superb additions and the majority on the MEN hitlist (obviously TPA has been a slight revelation with the revision of their incentive programme)

Believe Chicago is summer only ex-EDI.

I sometimes wonder if it's worth MAN's while to take out full page ads in the the press to just make it even more widely known, particularly in the South East, that there is a lessening of the reliance of getting passengers on the LHR routes as the only means of doing business with major worldwide cities.

Does Manchester airport advertise its global range of destinations offered in Northern Ireland, Rep Of Ireland, Scotland, Northern England. It should be advertising on billboards, bus stop advertising, local radio even?
After all Manchester has excellent domestic connections. Its time to go and sell itself nationwide!

They did at one point (2010-11) have a billboard campaign in and around the Leeds city region. The boards listed long haul destinations in different fonts with the tag line “The World from Manchester Airport”

:wtf:

The World Travel Market is currently taking place in London.

Oman Air to Manchester has been discussed this year, and last year, the event was used to announce Manchester-Tobago on TCX.

What's interesting this year, is that there has been a presentation about India, with one line that may be of interest to us:

'New flight routes to Manchester in 2017 will enable even more tourism opportunities'.

There was no reference to the context of this, no carrier or destination mentioned, but, found it very interesting.

Interesting they use the word routeS i.e plural. Mumbai and Delhi? Trivandrum for a touristy place that was available ex-LGW

Off topic but:

Trump isn't going to be half as bad as people expect. His campaign was about appealing to all denominators, he is already toning down his speeches and I think people will be surprised.

It's also thawing out the tension with Russia. Putin is a Trump fan, and with Russia ramping up threats, it may just pre long any more threats.

Like I say, I don't think it's going to be half as bad as people expect.

More advertising of indirect routings to Japan and Korea. Given the low prices on KLM I expect a Japanese or Korean carrier starting a direct service at MAN would face similar issues to the likes of AA/UA/DL on the direct TATL services - going indirect is substantially cheaper!

SAN FRANCISCO schedules 2017.

Wasn't sure where to put this as it relates to both VS and TCX. From the airline web sites, it seems the days of operation are:
VS - Sunday, Tuesday, Friday
TCX - Sunday, Thursday.

Looking at the flight details on the common day, Sunday, the timings seem rather odd for dates I checked in June.

VS dep. 11.20 arr SFO 14.40 (duration 11 hrs. 20 mins with 8 hour time difference)
TCX dep. 12.00 arr SFO 14.35 (duration 10 hrs 35 mins.)

Is the A332 really 45 minutes faster than the A333? Any thoughts or do times show up differently elsewhere?

I think VS will also be allowing for any delays quite significantly more than TCX. They do this on their new BOS flights which are timed at 7hrs 30 on the return, when in reality it takes about 5:45-6:00.

from one of the articles on the 25 million passenger mark...

https://www.insidermedia.com/inside...-early-stage-conversations-for-shanghai-route

"Roche added there are "some new routes in the bag" with further expansion in Asia to be expected, as well as to the US and Middle East.

In June, Manchester Airport celebrated its inaugural flights to Beijing and Roche admitted that she "wouldn’t be surprised" if a Shanghai service started in the future."

Have we ever seen an airport official come out so bullish about new long haul? It's normally a wish list of routes that is talked about but this makes a seachange in communication.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
