Great stuff. I'm so out of date with current affairs, I didn't even know the Chinese PM was visiting the UK.

VS074 has just arrived into BHX as a diversion from MAN.

I wonder what is the reason.

I've checked MAN arrivals page and everything else seems to be landing except the VS074 from Orlando due MAN 0935 that is shown as diverting to Birmingham with a message, 'Call Flightline 090 etc'.

VS076 into MAN, also from Orlando, due 0820 landed at 0848.

Yes. We were wondering what the reason for the diversion was. Checking around the scheduled arrival time for the flight everything was showing as either landed or arrived with a couple on approach. The only thing I can think of was a weather / windshear problem.

I know for a fact that there has been windshear here at BHX. A C17 landed earlier on this morning and just as it was coming over the A45 she caught a gust of wind under her wings and there was a VERY big bank just coming over the fence. Kudos to the crew as they managed to get her down without any messing about.

I have not seen any departure information for the VS flight at this stage. Does anyone know if She has departed as yet?

According to another forum the reason for the VS074 diverting to BHX this morning was windshear at MAN.

Apparently, two attempts at landing were tried before diverting.

Well it looks like we will not be seeing any more Air Finland flights into BHX. News has broken on a certain forum dvising that they have ceased operations. They have been used on certain Monarch flights in recent times. I have also seen Titan being used from BHX (today at least) so it may be that Monarch have already made alternate arrangements.

Does anyone have any more news / information on this latest Airline to go out of business?

Very sad news to see yet another airline go under. What is the likely hood of another airline taking on the BHX route?

From what I know of their operation they only flew ex BHX as cover for other Airlines (Monarch springs to mind straight away). I know they based two aircraft here either last year or the year before which were used to cover shortfall in capacity. I do not think they actually operated as themselves from BHX at all.

Sad to see another carrier close but at the end of the day if they are not making money they cannot continue to operate for ever and a day.

Air Finland is not the first to be affected by this global downturn, nor do I think it will be the last.

Birmingham Airport Olympic Flights

Hi all,

So well into the games and I wonder what has happened to all the extra flights that - Could Possibly have visited/positioned Into the airport, either as extra flights/upgrades or as expected placement flights from LHR/LGW/STN etc.

Very dissapointing and supprising....

Re: Bham Airport Olympic Flights

There have been extra flights but many will have travelled on the usual scheduled services to London and to other airports around the country. We had the Netherlands swimming team come through our local airport but they used the normal schedule of KLM rather than chartering their own aircraft.

Good to have you back and I hope the move went OK! :s_yes

Fingers crossed BHX (amongst others) will have a Vulcan fly past on Saturday afternoon, weather/tech permitting.

This Saturday afternoon, XH558 will (subject to weather, tech, etc) make her final flight of the season, a special tour to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the prototype Vulcan’s first flight in 1952. XH558 will make a flypast of airfields
close to some of the sites that played an important role in the technical story: Doncaster – Bitteswell - Coventry, Birmingham, RAF Cosford, Gloucester (Staverton), Cheltenham, Filton, Cardiff, St. Athan, Ross-on-Wye, RAF Halton (near Aylesbury), Doncaster. More info on Friday. We won’t receive any display fees, so we have set-up a text donation line for people who would like to help us pay for the fuel. You can text TOUR123 to 70070 to donate £3 or TOUR125 to donate £5 or TOUR1210 to donate £10. For those wondering why Woodford isn’t on the list, it’s because we paid tribute on the way back from CarFest earlier in the month.

I'd seen the big bird flying over the A64 near York a couple of weeks back. It's still an impressive beast today.

[offtopic]Thanks for that, ray.

I'll keep an eye out on Saturday when the Vulcan does her Filton flypast. She might come near me in the south of Bristol on the journey between Filton and South Wales.

Vulcans have had some interesting adventures at Filton down the years and can rightly said to be rather accident-prone there with ground-based incidents, but I'm not tempting fate as this Saturday will be a flypast.

I've recalled some of the incidents in the Filton thread.[/offtopic]

Aviador

I've not had the pleasure of seeing one since I was a kid. I'm desperately hoping I can get down to Sheldon Country Park this weekend, although we have half of South Yorkshire descending on us Saturday morning

Mr Yokel

Found the Filton thread, a very interesting read :good: It will be sad not seeing it from the M5 as I'm journeying home, I always look out for Concordes tail poking up :sorry:

[offtopic]I've just updated the Filton thread in the last few minutes re past Vulcan adventures.[/offtopic]

Wow!

There must have been a few hundred people over Sheldon Country Park with more at other viewing spots around the perimiter. What a fantastic sight. I had ATC on the radio and numerous pilots were asking what time it was due :D

Here's a picture.....or two.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
