It was scheduled to go direct to Bruntingthorpe but as the bad weather meant it couldn't get in the plan was to go to BHX until it could, similar to the Transaero 747 last winter. It appears that somewhere en-route the plan changed and it went to EMA instead. Why, I don't know, but BHX has a reduced runway landing category for the time being and there has been a very low cloud base all day so that may have possibly been a factor.

FR24 is showing this mornings Turkish as an A319 which I've never seen before. Either there's a bit of a light load today or something has gone tech and pax have been bumped to this afternoons flight.

I can't wait until it snows down south, so we end up with a lot of interesting diversions. ;)

Didn't Air Asia once divert here and were bitter about their treatment?

With runway and taxiway works going on, as well as the Ryanair Static display team, unless visibility is near perfect, I think it has the potential be a lean winter divert wise for BHX.

And yes Air Asia were peeved at BHX last time they diverted, however with no EU ops for AAX at the moment, it would be quite a strange miracle if one was to divert to BHX!

I think you'll be more likely to see diverts away from BHX this winter with the reduced landing category and night time closures. There are one or two flights cutting it very fine to get in before 11pm, we've already lost a couple of Flybe's up to EMA.

UAL27 held north of Birmingham for about 30mins this morning before diverting to MAN, the weather is clear here so can only think maybe the runway works overran? It's just on it's way back down from MAN now.

The flying show is on at the NEC this weekend and there are around 14 light aircraft due this morning, subject to weather etc...

There ended up being more than 20 light aircraft yesterday with a couple of Gyrocopters also, one of the aircraft gave a bit of an acrobatic display on arrival and departure.

There are around a dozen due in today but there could be more, subject to weather etc.

Turkmenistan 738 EZ-A017 routing BFI-YYR-BHX-ASB stopped in for fuel earlier. Anybody heard whether the Fly Dubai will be leaving tomorrow and whether the next one will arrive?

Hi,
N500LS Boeing B737-700(BBJ) is due into BHX at around 1020L tomorrow (SAT 21 DEC 2013). It is due to arrive at Coventry at 2330 after the BHX 2300L closure to then depart CVT at 1000L. However, if N500LS can get to BHX before 2300L, it will.

Thanks for the info and welcome.

Is much happening at CVT lately? I've thought about starting a Coventry thread but there doesn't seem much to discuss at the moment.

Air Medical Ltd (AirMed) Learjet 35A G-JMED arrived a few moments ago.

There is also a very special arrival from Lapland showing on the airport website for 23:59 tonight, flight number ELF 01 :)

There's a bit happening at Coventry, West Atlantic is growing its 737 fleet and is acquiring a 767. Classic Air Forces DC3s are at Coventry and they are restoring a Canberra to flight here, the Shackleton is due to do a taxi test in the coming months

Good stuff. Do you know where the 767 will be based? Could the CVT runway handle it when loaded or will it possibly be based at EMA?

Estonian Air are to base an E170 at BHX from this weekend, it will be used on charter flights and will be parked at BHX when not in use.

The Estonian Air E170 should be doing some IT flights from BHX over the summer as well as operating ad-hoc charters, with Cello doing so well hopefully this will be successful too.

Estonian Air signs agreement with Air Charter Service

Air Charter Service, a global aircraft charter company, has signed an agreement to market and sell air charter on Estonian Air’s Embraer 170 airliner. The aircraft is likely to be based at Birmingham Airport in the UK.

Matt Purton, commercial jets director at Air Charter Service, said: “With a capacity of 76 seats and a range of around three hours, we feel that the aircraft is very versatile and will be ideal for sports teams, oil and gas clients and the MICE industry. The aircraft is in an all economy plus configuration, with 31 inch pitch seats in a two-by-two configuration. There is a lack of this kind of capability, in the UK market especially, and at the request of our client base, we have brought it in.”

“We’ve been pleasantly surprised at the uptake from tour operators looking for niche routes from regional airports to Mediterranean countries especially,” added Purton. “Also we’ve already seen some demand for ACMI coverage, all this is in addition to our core charter business,”

The agreement means that Air Charter Service is the sole agent for the aircraft, with availability exclusive to their customers. Purton also confirmed that the contract started on 1 January 2014 and that he expects the initial deal to be extended. “If the current market trends don’t change too much, I can only see us continuing this partnership on into 2015,” he said.

Mikael Wangdahl, the cheif operating office of Estonian Air, said: “We see a good opportunity to utilise our surplus aircraft capacity in the UK’s market and we have had a very good, longstanding cooperation with Air Charter Service. By signing the agreement with ACS we extend the existing relationship and get good value for marketing and sales on the Western side of Europe.”

Seems to be a growing market for this type of operation. Cello recently got a 2nd aircraft (G-LENM), Gainjet recently added a B737 to its Manchester base (alongside the B757 SX-RFA) and bmi regional seem to be heading more into charter operations.

A poster on the BRS forum who is extremely well informed about such things posted recently that the Estonian E170 will operate BHX-VRN-BRS-VRN-BHX for Inghams on Summer Saturdays replacing last summer's BRS-based bmi regional E145 on BRS-VRN as more seats are required (Inghams lost their allocation on the Saturday TUI BRS-VRN last year when it was reduced from a TOM B 738 to a Mistral Air B 734 which it seems will still be the TUI equipment in 2014).

The Estonian E170 will arrive tomorrow at 10:55 from Belfast International then depart to Southampton at 15:40 for a charter. Saturday it will arrive back from Southampton at 17:50 then depart to Belfast at 23:00. It should then position back from Belfast at 01:30 and become BHX based.

All subject to change of course.

ATI 767 N761CX arrived from Cleveland this morning and is parked on the Elmdon apron, it's due out at 22:45. This isn't the first time it has visited however, it was a regular in the 90's when flying with American Airlines.

Two Enhance Aero Group Embraer ERJ-145's are in at the moment, F-HAFS and F-HFKC which is in the basic Dniproavia scheme. They're visitors for the Spring Fair at the NEC and should be night stopping along with a couple of 146's.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
