Hi ! this is the new thread dealing with diversions away from Lbia during this coming winter. We will also report any inbound diversions and subject to being informed the reasons for the diversions. At the end of the winter season I will make an analysis of the information we have available and let you all make your own judgment on the results.

Re: Diversion Data Winter 2013-2014.

For ease of collating data will you list the order in which you want the information to go? This will help when other people want to add to the information particularly if there are things missed.

Re: Diversion Data Winter 2013-2014.

Will Do ! I am about to go to Sherburn to fly the Cherokee right now so will sort it out tomorrow.

How About
Type---Registration--Operator--Time-- Diverted to / from--Reason Given--Remarks

Re: Diversion Data Winter 2013-2014.

Here's the first one for the thread

Dash 8 Q400 - G-FBLE - Flybe - 12:30 - Diverted to Liverpool from Belfast City (BE 729) - High winds

December 2013 produced 4 diversions in total and several cancellations.
05th December.
Aircraft Type Registration Operator Flight Number Time To Reason
Dash 8-400 Unknown FlyBe BE729 0835 Liverpool Strong Crosswinds
Airbus A320 G-ZBAB Monarch ZB7543 1400 Manchester Strong Crosswinds
11th December.
Airbus A320 Unknown BA BA1346 0920 Manchester Low Visibility [ Below 200m RVR ]
Boeing 738 Unknown Ryanair FR152 0930 Liverpool Low Visibility [ Below 200m RVR ]

Only one diversion could have been prevented as we can do nothing about the crosswind due to our runway being out of wind.
Ryanair B737-800s are Cat 3A only so cannot make an approach with an RVR below 200m anywhere.
However the BA A319 is a Cat 3B capable aircraft at other airports but because of our Ils and long flair issues is only able to operate to Cat 3A minima at Lbia so could have landed if this was not a problem.
Still an exceptional month so I am hoping these very small diversion rates continue throughout the winter.

If you are counting inbound diversions, there was a KLM F70 diverted into LBA on Monday morning due to fog at HUY. Only the above mentioned Dornier diverted from LBA this morning according to the LBA arrivals.

Many thanks for the information. Its been an exceptional year so far which has all but made this record keeping pointless.
I hope this continues until 31-03-2104.

January 2014 produced 3 diversions which is remarkable and very good news.
12th January.
Type Reg Operator Time Diverted to Reason Remarks
B737-400 - SP-ENA - Enter Air - 1800 - Manchester - low cloudbase - Made 1 approach to runway 14.
B737-300 - G-GDFH - Jet 2 - ???? - Doncaster - low cloudbase - Runway 14 in use [ Rwy 32 not useable ?? ]

22nd January.
Dornier 228 - G-CCGS Loganair - 0900 - Doncaster - low visibility - below Cat 1 minima.

Conclusions.
1. Enter Air are probably not Cat 2 or 3 capable so airport facilities are not relevant.
2. I do not know if the Jet 2 B737 could have landed Cat 3A on runway 32. [ I was not at home ]
3. Not sure if Loganair are Cat 2 approved but the airport equipment was operating normally so not relevant.

We also had one inbound diversion.
21st January.
Fokker 70 - PH-??? Klm ???? From Humberside low visibility at Humberside Operating Ams to Huy.

What a pity we lost the Ryanair flight from Malaga last night as otherwise March would have produced nil diversions away and one diversion inbound in the form of Wizz Air A320 HA-LPS on the 24th from Robin Hood for unknown reasons.
I am pretty sure the Malaga flight came back and landed in the early hours as it woke me up so hopefully we lost no passengers. So in summary this winter has been one of the best we have ever had with very few diversions away less than 1% I dont think the snow sweepers were used at all and lack of Cat 3 Ils on runway 14 made little difference.

Yeah I can confirm the diverted Ryanair B738 returned to LBA in the early hours. Like you say the diversion rate has been pretty dam good this winter and has made this recording pointless in away compaired to previous bad winter's.. Don't forget we got a couple of Manchester diverts with 1x Aer Arann ATR72 along with 2x Sun-Air (BA) DO328J's and and a Manx2 Let410 from Blackpool.

LBA has been very lucky through the winter season just gone. I still don't think this thread has been a waste of time especially if today's weather is anything to go by.

Thanks for that information lbaspotter I only intended to log diversions away from Lbia. However as there have been so few this winter inbounds are a welcome extra source of pleasure.
As I have been away all day today I am not aware of todays happenings and as Its a summer schedule month I did not intend to include it. Hopefully the rest of the summer will not cause too many problems so we will have to see what next winter brings.
I failed to report on February 2014 so I will do that in the next few days.
