Even if this rumour people are talking about is a "US" service, its hardly encouraging that we will lose one service but "maybe" gain another which will give BHX 1 service to the USA.

Im sorry but this should be sending out "alarm bells" and im starting to feel nervous for the future of any long haul ex BHX.

Hopefully BHX will be out with the old and in with the new very soon !
The new offering a lot more seats than the old.
Here we go again!
A lot more seats to the same destination?Good but will it last 20 years?
A lot more seats to a new destination? Not so good as we want to increase destinations not swap them.
A lot more seats meaning more than 1 destination? Very good but unlikely.

Unlikely? Maybe. Impossible?
Have you ever watched those police documentaries where the interviewer gradually extracts
the info from the suspect?
British airlines flying the Atlantic seem happy with their current routes and bases and reluctant to dilute them.
What do you think?
No comment is not an option

UA gone from October.

While the news regarding United is disappointing, we should acknowledge that BHX is not being singled out for a cut. The airline has cut back across the whole regional board, including Man. So, this is not a slight on BHX,it is how one airline is apparently changing its strategy in a manner that it understands but few others can!
Given that the West Midlands conurbation is vibrant, strong, growing, a vital part of the UK economy and will continue to trade worldwide - both east and west - then i hope that before long United's loss will be another airline's gain.

That is what we have been told.
In view of the United news do you think any of the American carriers who created the market at Manchester might be feeling that they are being squeezed out? Or is this a bad time for them generally in the UK regions and expansion
from any of them is unlikely?

Agreed. Whenever there is bad news up the road it's usually regarded as an airline issue rather than an airport one and I see no difference here. It's just very unfortunate that BHX has now lost both of it's main transatlantic links (should UA be gone for good). Interesting times ahead.

the fact is USA airlines obviously don't make enough profit on UK regional flights, no first class, limited freight, so are moving away from the regions, if i'm right US airlines from October will therefore only fly to Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh, note no Gatwick services either, with of course London Heathrow and Edinburgh being the capital gateway airports for England/Scotland.

So which other airlines are happy to fly from the UK to the US? British Airways and Virgin will certainly not fly Birmingham to the US, so who does that leave? Thomas Cook? they seem to be happy building up the flights from Manchester and won't even fly regular charters to the US from BHX, so that leaves Norwegian?

Norwegian were rumoured to be interested in TA flights from Birmingham, then threw the dolls out of the pram when Birmingham announced the Jet2 base/deal, and at present don't seem interested in Birmingham, unless a deal is being done? Even if a deal is reached with BHX, we won't see flights to New York JFK or Newark, but secondary airfields in New York and the US, is this what we really want?

The US is becoming an increasingly difficult market, and I really can't see any airline apart from possibly Norwegian who are prepared to still take the gamble on BHX - USA flights.

It's only my opinion but the recent trend seems to be that the US carriers are definitely feeling the squeeze. Thomas Cook look to be wiping the floor with them up at MAN and Norwegian are looking strong at LGW. May we see a time when the US airlines retreat to fortress LHR? If only I had a crystal ball.

I guess we all have to move with the times and the new kids on the block seem to have newer, shinier toys that are grabbing much of the attention.

Definitely interesting times.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
