New surface car park and improved drop off car park with 30 mins free and a new walkway to the terminal. Improved baggage screening (already underway) doubling capacity. The number of self service check in desks is to be doubled with new digital branding and a new ATC surface radar installed.

There has been talk of some internal reconfiguration but I've not heard anything official on that one.

I had heard most of this but not the radar. I think something needs doing in the baggage reclaim only been through old main terminal recently but looks very shabby. The area where people congregate to meet passengers arriving needs expanding. At busy times this gets completely jammed.

I also think we need something doing for aircraft parked on remote stands. Certainly the high numbered gates are dire. Dark, not enough seats and terrible PA systems. Some shelter is needed at the aircraft end. It would help if the steps had covers on them and something like bus shelters near the aircraft would be a great improvement.

During the month of September, airports welcoming more than 25 million
passengers per year (Group 1), airports welcoming between 10 and 25
million passengers (Group 2), airports welcoming between 5 and 10 million
passengers (Group 3) and airports welcoming less than 5 million
passengers per year (Group 4) reported an average adjustment +1.4%,
+7.1%, +10.8% and +5.9%.
The airports which reported the highest increases in passenger traffic
during September 2016 (compared with September 2015) are as follows:

GROUP 1: Dublin (+10.8%), Barcelona (+9.8%),
Moscow SVO (+8.4%), Copenhagen (+7.7%) and Amsterdam (+7.4%)

Looking at BHX's annual air transport movements, 2016 will come in at around 104k
Which is still lower than in 2000, obviously bigger aircraft now but still not a 'busy' as 2000.
So lots of runway capacity

That is quite a leap from 2015 to 2016.aircraft equals destinations equals passengers. All good stuff.

I'm hoping 2017 with Jet 2 and other additions may break the 113k record it must stand a good chance...

At least we'll be up on last year. Why are we still lower than the early 2000s though? In terms of movements, I mean.

It's not just Birmingham - most airports haven't got back to pre-recession levels of movements. Best guess is that airlines are trying to operate their flights more efficiently. 2 flights with 150 pax on each is cheaper to operate than 3 flights with 100 pax on each.

2007 had the most flights from BHX (~114,700), with an average of 84 pax per flight. Last year, BHX handled ~98,000 flights with an average of 104 pax per flight.

Some decent numbers there.

The core sun routes definitely had a good month and Eastern Europe is looking healthy.

If the EK41/42 cancellations are taken into account then Emirates are actually up. Doha getting better and Islamabad doing well.

Air India looks very good, especially with 7.5k going to Delhi compared to just 4.9k heading to Amritsar. It shows that BHX-India is more than just ATQ.

They cancelled the morning flight for the entirety of November yes, but they also cancelled 8-10 morning flights in October.

There were therefore circa 80-85 flights this October compared to 93 last October, although this October the aircraft used were different and EK had competition from QR who also weren't around last October!

Year to date growth = +13.39%

Rolling 12 month total = 11,471,572

1 months left to go.....At +13.39% as an average yearly growth rate, we will be looking at BHX ending the year circa 11,553,000 pax

A decent increase there, we didn't quite make the 800K that many hoped for but still good.

December looks to be an excellent month with loads looking increasingly good. The press release says "Between Friday 16th December 2016 to Tuesday 3rd January 2017 we expect to see over half a million people giving a predicted increase of 21.2% compared to the same period last year".

It's going to take a great 2017 to get the 13.5 million that some are predicting.

assuming we hit 11,550,000 pax in 2016, you figures Ian would equate to growth between 9-17%

BHX should handle betwen 12.6m-13.5m - depending on what rumour you believe !!

Does anyone have any figures for how many new flights/seats were added in 2016, and how many are planned for 2017?

Agreed that 13.5mppa seems rather optimistic - a more realistic upper target would be 13mppa, but given the level of economic uncertainty predicted over the next few years, anything above 12.5mppa would be good.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
